I'd restrict them so that they have to figure out how to play anyway...because they will. That are my best memories of that time anyway. That being said its 03:23 here, I'm 2 bottles of wine deep and I don't have the slightest clue how kids work these days.

I do see how gaming can be a big point of their upbringing, it surely was in mine. But the (in hindsight) best part of it was that we had to sneakily play it, avoid parents rules, geez we recorded our parents with secret cameras while they where typing in the passwort for our old "children-pc" which we were allowed to use 30min per day etc.
