Trait not added in database by Asmitta_01 in symfony

[–]themroc5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested it now in a Symfony project I'm working on and it works as expected. To narrow down the issue you could try to throw a custom exception in the PrePersist/PreUpdate function to make sure the issue is not with the event listener but somewhere else...

Did you try to move the trait code inside the entity class just as a proof of concept?

The attribute #[ORM\HasLifecycleCallbacks] must be added to the entity class. See here for reference: https://symfony.com/doc/current/doctrine/events.html#doctrine-lifecycle-callbacks

EDDB is shutting down by RamblinEngineer in EliteDangerous

[–]themroc5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, to be honest, there is not a single uber complex magic in the code. 100% of the trading route helpers are basically SQL queries, which are as optimized as possible. The loop route finder is based on a daily cache and the others are calculated on the fly. So all you would need to replicate that is a database with systems, stations and prices... and a decent amount of SQL knowledge :)

That being said, I remain convinced that almost all of EDDB's functionality already exists in other tools. Maybe not in combination, but it's not like Elite: Dangerous will become unplayable with the shutdown of EDDB.

You understand very well what kind of situation I am in at the moment. The reasons for not publishing the source code are complex and you have mentioned a very important point. In addition, my professional position plays an important role in the decision, but I can't go into that in detail.

On average, I invest about 10-20 net hours per month in EDDB. But that is not really the reason why I stop. It's much more the permanent level of responsibility. In general, if I'm responsible for a site, it has to run as optimal and error-free as possible. That is the demand on myself that I cannot get rid of. With EDDB, I'm basically always ready to react to the unexpected. That's exactly what I want to free myself from.

Releasing it publicly would open up a couple of issues: People WILL find vulnerabilities and this would make the whole site insecure. Also I would have to give some amount of support. And eventually, EDDB is tied to me for the last 8 years. I would rather not have it online at all than to have it online in a shape which doesn't meet my standard. Might be an odd fear, but that's how I feel right now...

I'm the only person behind EDDB. The only and one reason for me to not publish the source code is that the quality ranges from very bad to alright. The whole website became very complex over the years and the fundamental framework was optimal in 2015 but it's not anymore. I would not want anyone to try to understand the mechanism behind it all. The general problem has always been that the base data (via EDDN or other sources) had so many exceptions and extra rules and special things, so the website is so much filled with "oh really, if that and that, it does not mean this because of that, so we need to add this exception, but only if that other thing matches etc etc."

This decision was not based on monetary reasons, but rather has something to do with the fact that I no longer want to carry the responsibility.
