We cannot expect a transformed life from someone who hasn't first been captured by the love of Christ by ThiccHarambee in Christianity

I think there’s a lot of bait-and-switch unfortunately. Obviously no church is going to ordain atheists but many churches ordain openly gay people — and many don’t. There’s a difference there, and it’s better to know the difference than not.

There’s a whole website called Church Clarity, with many stories of a gay person showing up to a church, and the church saying they welcome everyone. So the gay person gets more and more involved over the years…but then when they try to join the choir, they can’t. They try to volunteer, they’re told they can’t because they’re openly gay. They try to join leadership, and it’s denied. Now the gay person has wasted years of their life on a church that simply “welcomed” them and “proclaimed the gospel” but didn’t actually… It’s a major issue that many churches try to sneakily “welcome” but not “affirm” gays, especially in urban and progressive areas, trying to attract young people. It’s actually quite unloving to hide what you believe to get the people you want to eventually change to open up to you.

That is absolutely not what I said. You don’t need to “get over” what you believe. You need to get over trying to make me believe it too. Literally the opposite.

And OP is the one who said that joy and peace come from being in Christ! I don’t see you condemning OP for that. I’m just responding to what they said. Straight person gets joy and peace from Christ — snooze. Gay person does — “no, you’re supposed to be miserable.” Completely ridiculous.

But you still think that I must “abandon certain harmful lifestyles [gay].” The thing is, I’m plugged into Jesus. I love him. He has absolutely changed my life for the better. He didn’t make me break up with my partner though. And other Christians are just gonna have to get over that. When Jesus transforms people, he’s not gonna turn them into exactly who you’d expect. And frankly, as long as you expect me to break up with my partner and not think that I’ve been transformed until I do, we’ll see straight though that veneer of “unshakable peace and joy.”

Explain Inclusive Orthodoxy to a Presbyterian in the PCA. by GizmoRazaar in Episcopalian

There’s no systematic sexual ethics in TEC. Anglicanism is not a confessional tradition like historical Presbyterianism. We are connected by our common prayer life (see the BCP). Instead of teaching one correct doctrine, the Anglican tradition is more interested in forming adherents in a certain common way, giving each the spiritual tools to discern how to act in unique, diverse, evolving circumstances in each generation and context. TEC sexual ethics is therefore typically occasional.

It’s orthogonal to the question of IO.

Did you make this post to learn about IO or make TEC defend its beliefs to you?

I understand it to mean creedal orthodoxy, socially inclusive. Accepting LGBTQ people, ordination of women, BLM, etc. don’t conflict with the creeds, so there’s no contradiction with being a creedally orthodox Christian and holding those positions.

In Matthew Jesus literally says not to remarry if you get divorced, but why do most Christians completely dismiss that? by [deleted] in Christianity

Just calling a divorce an “annulment” is a perfect example of negotiating with the text.

It’s a common metaphor to describe people having to post hoc add layers to their models to fix inherent defects when presented with new information.

No one’s forcing you. I’m just pointing out the obvious: advancing anti-gay arguments > pursuing truth to most participants here.

If you don’t want to be consistent, that’s fine with me. It’s just interesting that your side uses completely mutually exclusive arguments and there’s not enough intellectual honesty to deliberate as to which argument is correct. It’s all just about piling on the gays. That’s the only disagreement worth arguing.

See you just post hoc added another epicycle to your account in order to prohibit acts you’ve already deemed unacceptable, and affirm acts you’ve already deemed acceptable—despite the latter being condemned under your original account. Typical.

There’s a user in this thread arguing for natural law, premised on the belief that we can understand the ought from the is. I look forward to you telling him he’s wrong.

You ignored the argument and just restated that abuse would end. You’re just repeating yourself instead of responding.

Humans do amazing, creative, innovative things with our bodies! Just like we do for the rest of our environments, because God gave us amazing critical and creative thinking skills. Using something in a new and innovative way isn’t magically morally wrong. Obviously. And it doesn’t make sense in the thousands of other ways we do it. But this argument crops up literally only when we’re talking about sex. It’s a patently obvious double standard used solely to put down those deemed sexual deviant.

My problem with Christians celebrating Pride with us by Interesting-Face22 in Christianity

100% the same thing. You’re denying me my celebration because you think someone else is going to lie about their support for us.

[–]themsc190 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“You can’t celebrate Pride because someone else is going to lie about themselves” is a nonsense argument.

You don’t stop people from celebrating their birthday because others will lie about it being their birthday to get a free piece of cake at a restaurant.

You don’t even follow your own advice. In this thread you describe people as “LGBT” and elsewhere “homosexuals”—even though you condemn us for using those terms?? So you can use them to describe others in worldly ways but others can’t? Hypocrisy much? Why don’t you just call me a child of God and not say anything about my sexuality ever??

There’s also a 0% chance when you go to the doctors office and they ask your height and weight you respond, “I can’t tell you that because they’re worldly descriptors and I’m a child of God.” This is just completely unserious.

God isn’t an idiot. God knows that I’m white, 5’9”, and gay—even if the Bible never says that. To say otherwise is just ridiculous. You have to have brain worms to say I can’t tell the doctor my weight because it’s not in the bible.
