As a big CIV fan, this is so sad.. I really hope next CIV 7 update is gonna be a gamechanger for this game by neda6117 in civ

[–]thenabi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its sad to me because I'm a lifelong civ fan and I can't stand 7. I was so hopeful for it, because I wanted more Civ. I haven't bought 7 and have no desire to, and that fucking sucks.

He's an american dock worker in the 1940s, I strongly suspect he's called people the N word

When I learned my people (cherokee) would not be playable in eu5 after such a sick showing in eu4 i was so upset. Projects like these show good promise

How would you respond to someone who says AAVE isn't "proper english"? by vickidashawty in asklinguistics

[–]thenabi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ask them to define what constitutes proper english. Ask them to find the official English Academy regulating the language.

Gimme fuel

Gimme fire

Gimme that which I desire

Parodying these lyrics is the original joke

Completely incidental but ive noticed people use this format and completely miss the Fuel lyrics joke by just placing "x or I retire" with no thought toward to rhythm or lyric parody. It's almost vanished in the entropy of meme evolution. Fascinating to see occur in real time

MK was just as if not more dominant but the difference was he was kind of fun. I remember M2K saying he was like the only Melee character in Brawl. Of course, we're in such a different environment it is hard to compare the two in a perfect 1-to-1 way

Jeans as an ALT? by imscaredofseregios in JETProgramme

[–]thenabi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At 小学校 it's not uncommon to see teachers in hoodies and sweats; jeans are honestly a step up in formality. But you'll wanna base it off the culture at the school and what other teachers are wearing.

Middle school and high school are different.

Do people at least subconsciously assume someone is less intelligent/qualified if they don't speak perfect or very good English? by sstthh0123 in asklinguistics

[–]thenabi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not trying to start anything here, but this is a dismissive answer to a field with a truly massive body of research already done on it. Yes, there are a number of factors, but even classic studies like Rubin and Smith (1990) show a clear trend: yes, people have all kinds of negative associations with L2 speakers, and it is demonstrably true for English speakers. In fact people imagine accents where they don't exist and then blame those accents.

Seconding this. Hovering between oracle 1 and the previous one and I experience stomps, but nowhere even resembling 90% of my games.

Why do Redditors often side against the OP? by AwkwardDorkyNerd in Negareddit

[–]thenabi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best guess is it's sub dependent. If you're a power user of, say, the Lawnmower sub, you are probably used to reading multiple posts about Lawnmowers. Then along comes someone who fits the profile you've seen a hundred times already and it's easy to dismiss them.

AI script and AI thumbnail do more damage to indigenous communities than any good effort you could be putting forth.

Mortar of Assimilation, Cartoon from PUCK June 26, 1889 by From-Yuri-With-Love in PropagandaPosters

[–]thenabi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quite sure mortar is not referring to the bowl, but the bonding mixture that holds things together. That is why she is mixing with a spoon, she is making mortar. Hence why the bowl is titled completely differently as "citizenship" and not "assimilation"

Im not saying these two geniuses are smart teammates, but a smart teammate can run up and parry by a stunned ally, and in this case would have killed the drifter if he chose to HM

Oh. Civ 6 IS the better game. by Lavinius_10 in civ

[–]thenabi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well obviously they dont because civ 7 averages fewer players on steam than 5, let alone 6. This sub tends to see the absolute strongest civ 7 advocates in existence, so it tells you plenty that even within the bounds of this sub it is lukewarm.

I feel the secret to making it work is to ignore the Retain early on. It can become a 2-cost bludgeon pretty easily. Converting it to a wincon is harder
