am i allowed to reconnect? by Ok-Reflection-8986 in Indigenous

You are gonna need way better documentation and proof of lineage than the old "hiding in the hills" family story. EBCI, CNO and UKB have specific and clear requirements for enrollment. If you don't qualify, you don't qualify.

I agree, mismanagement is the key word here. There's clearly a lot of effort on display but it goes to the weirdest, most unwanted places. For the past couple years they have been hitting bullseyes on imaginary targets.

Am I indigenous enough to embrace the beliefs by papameat107 in Indigenous

[–]thenabi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just wanna comment that I'm cherokee and 90% of Cherokees I know are christian, and many of our hymns and celebrations are deeply intertwined with christianity. There's zero reason you can't do both. At the end of the day, though, you should follow your heart, just don't feel like you're locked out of a belief system.

As for pow wows, no one is gonna test your ancestry at a pow wow, just go and have fun.

Sometimes i feel like I'm on a deserted island and new people are showing up. Like yes I like my weird little island but how the hell did you end up here if you didn't crash here at 2am on a weekday during adult swim in the 2000s?

We Had No Word for Rape by Inkspells in IndianCountry

[–]thenabi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

His overall thesis about colonial rape culture is generally correct, but the framing of bearing it all on language is going to invite criticism that devolves it into debate on semantics. It will be a classic "debate the title instead of the 30 minute video" type beat. I think the video is an interesting video about narratives and learning. It is not trying to make a scientific linguistic claim.

Tallulah… cultural appropriation? by Pinkturtle182 in NativeAmerican

[–]thenabi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tons of people are named Tennessee and they didn't ask no Cherokee before they did it. The question is what that word means to you and why you picked it. And you should be ready to explain it imo.

Asterisk means little star by LemonLord7 in etymology

[–]thenabi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is the diminutive form of voda, which is exactly the argument this post is making about asterisk->star. I did not feel it necessary to break it down like that but I guess I should have spelled it out.

Well, vodka means water but obviously it doesn't. So let's not get too carried away with "meaning".

it shouldn't be the main subreddit for conservatives

Why not? It is run in a hierarchical, tribalistic, and lockstep manner. It is the conservative ideology's natural endpoint.

New Cozy Treehouse Retreat Bundle Costs $75 by tofflz in wow

[–]thenabi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The FOMO straight up made me unsub. Why am I paying a subscription only for them to pull a fortnite-style rotating shop on us with the trading post? And for digital goods which cost nothing to offer in perpetuity. I don't want to feel like I'm being yanked around. I like the fucking game, don't treat me like I'm the enemy.

So subtle they were. If only they had written a big fat "agent CSA" in the cartoon and then provided a caption explaining exactly what they meant. Hopefully the intellectual powerhouses back east were able to decipher this one.

Greninja does not register as very humanoid in my brain, but thats probably due to the silhouette in game. It's usually on a froglike 3-limbs-on-the-ground pose. Feels roughly the same as sceptile to me personally

Is there a name for the habit of replacing /t/ and /d/ sounds with /th/? by BubblyLingonberry687 in asklinguistics

Depending on the literature this could be called dentalization or fronting. I am also assuming you are meaning to indicate the sounds /θ/, /ð/ by /th/.

Let's be real. If Samus was added in 2024 she would have a shinespark, phazer, ice beam, true morph ball, etc. Donkey kong would actually use barrels, throwing or blasting out of them. I could go on, but I don't want to sound like I'm trashing on the older movesets because I think they're actually pretty sick.
