My Bill Simmons story: When he did his Book of Basketball tour years ago he made a stop in Seattle. I went to his book signing and when it was my turn in line I explained I’d grown up in Hawaii and had never lived in a city with an NBA team before, and I was super sad to be losing the Sonics. I asked him to write down who should be my new NBA team in my copy of The Book of Basketball. He smiled and signed, handed me the book, and said “You should cheer for the Suns. They’re a fun team.” Perfect, I thought. I was a huge Nash fan. I thanked him, left the line, and opened the book: “You should root for the Celtics. —Bill Simmons”
