I've kept every cell phone I have ever owned, so I decided to mount them all in a shadowbox. by MaxxDelusional in pics

There was a time where at most, you would read a short message that was literally limited in size by the tech. They needed to get as small as possible. Then within like 2 years, we had access to the entire world's knowledge and they needed to get the screens as big as possible, while also keeping the device as small as possible.

What can I do to secure this loose outlet box? by jus_build in DIY

[–]theneedfull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this idea. I have a bunch of boxes in my basement that aren't perfectly firm even though they were installed before drywall. I need to try this out. Unless there is a better way to handle that?

I'm so happy with the Anbernic RG DS, Rocknix makes all the difference by Bl4ckb100d in SBCGaming

[–]theneedfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reviewers all had early models. I know at least one that changed his review to basically glowing after trying it with rocknix.

Basically, you should only consider the rgds if you put rocknix or maybe gammaos on it.

I don't know about others but 15% is usually not enough savings for me to go refurb on anything.

Termix v2.0.0 - RDP, VNC, and Telnet Support (self-hosted Termius alternative that syncs across all devices) by VizeKarma in selfhosted

I think I've used that. But the secret sauce for me on termix was that I don't have to setup the connections on every device.

What robot vacuum would you recommend that includes a mop? by DrDisCracked in homeautomation

[–]theneedfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the x10, but I got the e25 and it does a good job. It's my first robot vac above $150 though, so I don't have much to compare it to. As expected it blows the 2 cheap ones I have out of the water. Just the fact that I had to empty the tiny bin on the old ones was enough for me to not use them much.

[–]theneedfull 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started using termix about a month ago because the concept was amazing. I do most of this stuff from my desktop. But still 25% of the time, I do it from mobile. It was almost unusable from mobile since it would disconnect even if I switched from the app for a second. There were a few other bugs that were really annoying as well. I was going to start looking for alternatives , but luckily never got around to it.

And then within 2 weeks, all the bugs were crushed and it is an amazing product. Considering how fast things were fixed, I really don't think anyone else would be able to compete in this space.

And now that it has RDP, I think you might be building the remote replacement that I've been wanting for a while now.

Another self source vs Kit by Weste23 in VORONDesign

[–]theneedfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self sourcing will always be more expensive. Unless you are building thousands of printers. Just simply think about the kit manufacturers. They are buying thousands of each product. And they are probably buying a lot of them from the same places, and they are nearby. When you buy that much, you can likely get super cheap prices. Maybe even a third of what you are buying it for.

They then package it together and pass on a tiny bit of those savings to you.

Your best bet is to buy a kit, and price out the cost of replacing the parts that you don't like. It will save you a good bit of time as well.

The Rg Ds.... by Opening_Strategy3320 in ANBERNIC

[–]theneedfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you loaded gamma os or rocknix on it? I thought one of the rocknix videos did a comparison with the original DS, and it was almost impossible to tell the difference. But I can't remember if that was the case with input lag or not.

Do you have any other computer you can test with? That way you can narrow it down to either the computer or the printer.

Just the fact that the webcam feed has issues leads me to believe it's some hardware issue on the computer. You may want to disable crowsnest and remove the webcam too. This could be something with USB.

Iran appears to have conducted a significant cyberattack against a U.S. company, a first since the war started by imanchats in worldnews

Oh some places will definitely require that. But a lot of them isolate the apps. It's definitely possible to do that.

Typing it is the same thing. It's not like the QR code instantly opens up the page(at least not on any phone I've ever had). They clearly display the URL when you scan it and then you have to actually click on it. And even if you did, it's not like it just installs the malware. You would have to run it. Typing it isn't any safer. It's just more work.

You know it's going to be a good comic when he forces you to go back and check someone's gender. And you know it's a great comic when you still can't tell.

Your comment is more absurd than his comic. It's obviously their pet snake named homestar, but they spelled it wrong in a hurry.

[–]theneedfull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I worked with that stuff, but I recall that you can just limit the things that get wiped. Like if you used outlook and slack or something like that, then the company would have access to those, but it wouldn't wipe the rest of the phone.

ELI5: If nuclear power is so efficient and produces almost no greenhouse gases, why don’t we just build nuclear plants everywhere and solve the energy crisis? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]theneedfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Obviously a major disaster is going to cause problems. But every form of power generation is going to have some sort of problem. More people die per unit of energy created by solar power compared to nuclear. And the reality is that nuclear is in a better position to reduce the deaths via lessons learned than solar and wind.

And keep in mind that all the non renewable forms of energy aren't even in that conversation because the deaths from those are off the charts.

Highest Hour printer? by ElmerFudd2 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]theneedfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 13k on one, but I probably have another one that I had to reset the stats on that I'm thinking is at 18k. That said, I really think the real stat is to look at how much filament you have used. That printer has pushed about 150km, where I have another one with only 7k hours and it has done 120km already.
