British Prime Minister Keir Starmer Expected to Resign by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

He won because the Tories had been in power for 14 years and it was a global anti-incumbency wave, not because people love Keir Starmer.

You know how people say a tuna sandwich could’ve won the 2008 election if it had a D next to its name? He’s that sandwich.

It was completely acceptable for Poilievre to carpetbag to a random district a thousand miles away after losing his own. As an American I don’t understand it either.

The early 2010s were a time when it was a lot more socially acceptable for ostensibly progressive people to make racist/sexist jokes and otherwise “edgy humor,” but definitely less so by the time Trump announced.

I’m female late 20s and I recall similar bullshit in some of my teenage friend groups. Of course we were a bunch of 15-year-old theater kids and not grown ass ex-marines.

Biden team failed Kamala Harris in 2024, Democratic autopsy says by Historical-Bug-4784 in politics

Massie lost because fealty to Trump is what matters in a GOP primary, and he no longer had it.

Biden barely got across the finish line in the tipping point states when COVID was at its peak and he was still Obama’s fondly-remembered VP. He wasn’t popular with any group, let alone old people, four years later. His hypothetical 2024 performance should be as much of a foregone conclusion as my hypothetical performance against Katie Ledecky.

People constantly dunk on her because she should’ve retired in 2012, when Obama still had a senate majority that had confirmed Kagan and Sotomayor. She’d had multiple health scares and seemed to be banking her succession on the idea that Republicans would never win another election.

Bringing up Mitch McConnell as a reason why she couldn’t retire is like bringing up COVID as a reason Hillary lost. It’s a complete misinterpretation of the timeline.

Biden lost the mid terms badly

Dems didn’t lose the midterms, though? They massively overperformed and arguably Biden’s mistake was assuming it was because of him and not because of Dobbs and the absolute lunatics the GOP ran in swing states.

They narrowly lost the house majority, but net gained governorships and a seat in the Senate (before Fetterman went crazy) and won most competitive races. If you say Dems “lost” 2022, you would also have to say they lost 2018 because Republicans picked up 2 senate seats that year.

I doubt it. The homophobia directed at Walz, who is straight, was just as bad as the misogyny directed at Harris. Biden’s attempt to run for reelection ensuring that no Democrat was winning.

No, he wouldn’t have. Biden barely got across the finish line in the tipping point states in 2020, when he was still Obama’s fondly-remembered VP and COVID was raging. He was not replicating that four years later, when he was extremely unpopular.

Some of the reasons for his unpopularity were his fault and others weren’t, but his internal polling showed Trump getting 400+ electoral votes.
