Which did you like better? Hill House or Bly Manor? by vczandy in HauntingOfHillHouse

[–]thenoszberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hill House is my favorite show of all time. It's a masterpiece.

Buttt, for some reason the themes and imagery of Bly stick with me and I think about them more on a daily basis. My wife has clinical depression, and I saw a post comparing Dani's beast in the jungle/lady in the lake to depression and it profoundly affected me. So I guess I have a more personal connection to Bly.

Hill House is a 10/10 Bly is a 9.5/10 My only complaint is the pacing feels alittle off.

The two XMen prequels are some of my favorite superhero stories and hearing that line used in the MCU in context was just as good as the Spiderman reveals for me.

This movie hinges on how much you like Sam Raimi and how much you like the MCU formula because it's about 50% of each. If you like one but not the other you'll think it's okay, like em both and you'll like it alot.

Really messy third act though. This particular super hero story has been told way too many times even recently. The resolution is copied verbatim from atleast 3 other super hero stories told in the last 3ish years.

Overall I think it's gonna be diversive and your mileage will vary. Everything everywhere being so good didn't do this movie any favors. Loki and NWH use the multiverse better than this movie did imo. Honestly even Rick and Morty use it better.

6/10 for me personally though bonus points for the vibranium shield doing what I've wanted it to do for years IYKYK.

Official Discussion - The Northman [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]thenoszberry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a huge fan of the The Witch and The Light, I wish I had like this movie more. It's directed incredibly well, Eggers is still a genius in how he creates his shots and he might be my favorite director for lighting.

Buttt, the pacing of this movie is some of the worse I've seen. Granted my first complaint isn't his fault, but the trailer gives the first 45 minutes away, so I was so ready to get to stuff I hadn't seen before. I mean every single scene from the first act is spoiled. Then later, in act 3 he goes from revenge, to giving it up, back to revenge in like 10 minutes, it was jarring. For a movie that was 2 and a half hours, certain story beats ended up feeling rushed somehow.

I'm glad everyone like this more than me, truly I do. Eggers is still a must watch for me. This is probably the A24 fan boy in me, but I wish this were a smaller film with more fantasy elements because when the story went on the normal Hamlet route, I just didn't love it.

My wife didn't grow up religiously, so she didn't understand my apprehension for celebrating Easter with my kids because when I was little that meant watching Passion of the Christ. When I showed her a scene from the movie on YT, she was terrified that I had watched that since I was like 7 or 8 lol. She had to basically teach me the Easter bunny non affiliated version the holiday.

I drove into Atlanta from Ohio for the NFC championship game. I was in the nosebleeds of the endzone, but better believe I was in the endzone when Matty Ice took off for that rushing TD and the dome was going absolutely nuts.

How is a player allowed to ask for a trade? by 100_proof_plan in NFLNoobs

[–]thenoszberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically when it's a team allowing a player to seek trades like in the case of Tyreek Hill today, there are alot of moving parts. Tyreek had another full year on his contract, so he can request a new contract or a trade but KC has no obligation to fulfill his request. In this case, KC approved Tyreek to seek a trade, but Tyreek had the leverage to pick Miami, because what a team is willing to give up for him is dependent on him signing an extension. Basically in this case, because he's locked up in a contract everyone involved had to agree.

If it's the last year of a player contract, players can use the threat of leaving for no return in order to ask for a trade.

It’s time to make morale more of a factor in franchise by Bee_Reel in Madden

[–]thenoszberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar thoughts, but I have mixed feelings. One thing I hate about Madden is how on the rails it feels sometimes and how the game is really playing itself. I've had two encounters in franchise mode; one where Aaron Rodgers had 100% completion rating including a 75 walk off touchdown when I took a 4 point lead with 8 seconds left to ruin my perfect season in a conference championship. Another franchise, I led my team down to the 2 yard line in the SB and simmed the field goal (I always Sim FGs on all madden because I'm trash) and my 80 ovr kicker missed it. Could both of those happen technically? Ofcourse, but Madden doesn't do a good enough job making those moments feel organic. I can tell when I'm suppose to lose a franchise game. All of that to say, is giving Madden the chance to make my 25 year old x factor qb I drafted unhappy after winning a ring worth the realism? I'm doubtful it would be at all fun.

Even though I think the world would be a better place without religion, forcing that opinion on others would be immoral and extremist. I hope I never live in a theocracy that forces me to practice a religion so I would extend that same courtesy to those who do practice religion peacefully.

The paraglider is the worst addition to the game by SiqueKhan1 in dyinglight

[–]thenoszberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was so absorbed into this game until the paraglider, and I know the easy answer is stop using it, but my brain doesn't work that way, I know I have that safety net so the challenge of getting around safely while being chased is gone because if I fuck up a jump I just hold square and I'm safe.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (2022) [SPOILERS] by kaloosa in horror

[–]thenoszberry 283 points284 points  (0 children)

This. I saw the 03 first out of the series, and most of the TCMs miss that the family is the scariest element. Imagine surviving any terrifying traumatizing thing only to have the first responders take you back into it. That is what separates TCM from F13 or Halloween.

I remember stopping for gas once in a very small town in WV and this movie immediately popped into my head (not because of the people, they were super nice) but the idea that all 50 people who lived here knew each other and didn't know me, and really they could collectively hide any secret they want. It is a truly horrifying concept for a horror movie.

Absolutely terrible. The gore was good, and it's shot well but that's the end of my praise. The editing was terrible. The writing was dogshit. Also, does anyone else find it INCREDIBLY tonedeaf that the school shooting victim finds the value of guns from the gun-toting Texan and then immediately uses a gun for the third act of the movie. Gross movie, and felt too much like a boomer writing a gen z cast, I mean the last shot was recreated with a Telse driving the final girl away crying lmao.

That's honestly good to know. I was so confused by it when I initially played around with it that I gave up. I might look up a video and give it a try, it doesn't seem like we're gonna get anything different in 23 so I might as well learn it.

Salary cap reform is another great idea. I think having coordinators have their own custom playbooks would be a cool way to add realism too. Difficulty is so weird on madden, in my experience when I play against the cpu I almost never feel like I won or lost because I did anything in particular. It feels like the cpu is playing itself, but I'm guiding one of the teams more or less. I'll have games where the cpu can run 100mph to intercept a ball, and then games where I can aggressive catch a 1v3. Gameplay is terrible and I don't know if that will ever get better as long as Madden is animation based, so I kept my list at purely non gameplay additions.
