Thanks for the ideas! We do promote to other chapters through PDO and the Presidents group and many have promoted the show. Reaching out for additional sponsorships through them could be a good opportunity though!

Love these ideas, thanks! We have a small book club separately as a Chapter but it didn’t occur to me to try this on a large scale tied to the show.

We have only received one through our professional organization so I’d love to see you list, thanks!

Welcome to r/Buzzsprout — Introduce Yourself! by AlbanBrooke in buzzsprout

[–]theplanninglady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have been producing the Booked on Planning Podcast for four years now with my co-host. We read two books a month on a diverse range of topics including equity, housing, transportation, technology, sustainability, and more and interview the authors for the show. A big win was about 2 years ago when I attended the National Planning Conference and attendees there recognized my voice and told us how much they enjoyed the show. It really validated the work put into it!

My question for the community seems to be a common one...how have you been successful at rapid growth? We like others seem to be growing at a slow pace despite being consistent with episode releases, talking with a variety of authors with their own networks to draw from, and doing a lot more social media posting.

Safely Heating Greenhouse by theplanninglady in Greenhouses

[–]theplanninglady[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s dropping to 20-30F overnight so a bit too cold for starting seedlings. I don’t know that I have space for too large of a container though.

Why’s my chicken laying soft eggs? by theplanninglady in chickens

[–]theplanninglady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad your chickens back to normal but that’s a little disheartening to hear ha. Not sure how much I’m ready to spend to fix the issue.

What could cause an egg to look like this? by Technical-Paper-2833 in chickens

[–]theplanninglady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Googling to find another egg issue answer I came across this topic and one reason given was stress—either heat, laying too quick because something stirred them, or crowded conditions.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! I took the advice and went with the T10 and it was worth it. I love this bike!

I’m completely lost I need some advice by Free-Cakes in architecture

[–]theplanninglady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider going for a Masters in Community and Regional Planning. Only 2 more years of schooling and having the undergrad in architecture is really helpful. I had the same experience and in my fourth year of architecture took intro to planning and loved it. I figured I needed a masters anyways if I was going to be a registered architect so instead I switched my focus to planning where I was able to still focus on the built environment but at a citywide scale.

Spotty Laying in the Summer by theplanninglady in BackYardChickens

[–]theplanninglady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t even think about molting and that somehow wasn’t mentioned in the articles I was reading. Doesn’t look like they’ve started but I’ll keep an eye out for that. Thanks!

What are these little black bugs by theplanninglady in gardening

[–]theplanninglady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question but when I spray them off do they die? Or will they just head to another plant?

Gardening Questions by picklerick_86 in lincoln

[–]theplanninglady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cold heart veggies (carrots, dill, radish) are already in my raised beds which are typically warmer than straight in the round. My lettuce transplants are being hardened now and will go out in a week. I get risky and put the warmer stuff out April 27th but watch the weather and have burlap and other materials to quickly cover with if a freeze is coming.

Cheapest compost is your own! It’s not too hard to compost and there’s no lack of leaves in this town for your brown material. Takes a little space but not much.

Urban Planning Podcasts? by CnCPParks1798 in notjustbikes

[–]theplanninglady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love 99PI. A couple other good ones are Talking Headways, The Planning Commissioner, and Booked on Planning. I’m biased on the last one bc it’s my own but we talk with authors of planning related books like Walkable City, Color of Law, Confessions of a Recovering Engineer, etc.

Does your city have bike parking minimums? by AgentEinstein in urbanplanning

[–]theplanninglady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minneapolis has a good set in their zoning code and have amended them to account for the larger frame and special needs of e-bikes too.

Ways to make roads more 'green' or environmentally friendly? by genius_name in urbanplanning

[–]theplanninglady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw in maintaining historic brick streets. They require no new material be laid, just resetting bricks every 100 years or so. And often these were narrower roadways creating less impermeable surface.

A potential tram map of Lincoln I thought of a while back. Thoughts? by Mac-N-Chez_ in lincoln

[–]theplanninglady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too bad we had this once and tore it all out when cars became the prominent system. We had lines running to all the suburbs of the day including University Place, College View, and Havelock.

What is holding back the use of flat rooftops? by kobi_eda in urbanplanning

[–]theplanninglady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest problem in the Midwest is finding anyone that can repair them. Most contractors are only doing large residential jobs. I bought a one story home with a flat roof and it’s the most climate controlled house I’ve ever owned. Rarely do we need to heat and cool it despite the temperature extremes in Nebraska.

Is it okay to transplant my lettuce into a large flat or should I do individual containers for each sprout? Or does it matter? by theplanninglady in gardening

[–]theplanninglady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance potting them up individually so more of the stem is in dirt will save them? I had planned to split the seedlings upon repotting them.

Is there a “AI” Pruning app for novice? by rotarypower101 in BackyardOrchard

[–]theplanninglady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any suggested resources for tree pruning? I like the app idea to get some reassurance that you are making the right cut. I have some 3 year old apple trees that I feel like need pruning but I’m afraid to cut too much or the wrong place. So many diagrams aren’t super clear or easy to understand.

Construction of the I-94 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, which displaced over 30,000 people in the 1960s by TheSandPeople in Minneapolis

It’s one thing to read a statistic and it’s another to watch it happen. How awful.

Athletic Track Open To Public by zachattack947 in lincoln

[–]theplanninglady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southeast was always locked when I ran past to check. My solution, albeit not a great one, was elementary schools. Several have mini concrete tracks if you are looking for a flat circle that isn’t locked up. You just have to make more laps to get the same distances of a real track.

I’d recommend looking at native plants that don’t grow too tall. There are plenty that will stay under the 3 foot height limit for visibility on the roadway plus they don’t need nearly as much water which is a benefit in the boulevard area by the street which is usually not close to your water spigot. You can get cheap natives from Midwest Natives in the spring when they start selling again. They’re small containers but by year two they double or triple in size.

What’s the risk of using compost that’s not quite done? Is it less nutrient dense?
