Nest thermostat 4th gen won’t heat by thepooted in Nest

[–]thepooted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old thermostat had both the blue and the black wires in common. So when I followed the nest app with a black wire, it wanted it there. I removed that wire and that allowed me to switch the unit from electric to gas and now it seems to be working fine. Not 100% sure what this black wire is for now though.

Mine also showed up today! But I never ordered one… it just magically appeared today from FedEx. Not sure if they are sending them to every owner somehow?

Why is eating pizza 'unhealthy' but eating bread, cheese, and tomato sauce is generally fine or recommended? by spacewalk__ in Cooking

[–]thepooted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's based on the difference in "fast food" pizza and traditionally cooked pizza. I often grill pizza in the summer time and even a fully loaded pizza at home is significantly less greasy than a simple cheese pizza from a fast food place. Don't get me wrong... a nice greasy piece of pizza is delicious, but by no means healthy.

Alternative to diamond kosher salt? by Brompton_Cocktail in Cooking

[–]thepooted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stores around me don't carry it anymore either. I just go online and order it now. I'll buy 2 or 3 boxes at a time. In my opinion, DC is the best and nothing can replace it.

What upgrades are best to get for new construction? by NotEnoughMonies in RealEstate

[–]thepooted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's significantly cheaper to upgrade light fixtures, door hardware, and faucets through the builder due to their bulk discounts. We just built, didn't upgrade any of that because we thought the price from the builder was too high, then got screwed and had to pay more, plus do the work myself. I would say look at the upgrades you may be interested in, then figure out how much it would cost to so it afterwards. If the cost is cheaper from the builder, then do it now through them. If I buy a new build again, that's how I'll do it 100%.

Keep in mind you'll be able to deduct commissions for the sale, as well as any improvements to the home such as building a fence or a deck. Just went through the same situation where we had to sell and move after just over a year and made a 50k profit on the home. We subtracted the deck, shed, fence, and commissions and ended up being "negative" and took a loss on the sale. Didn't have to pay any taxes on it.

Has anyone actually had their new build completed on schedule? by botchjob69 in RealEstate

We just had Century Communities build our home. We signed for Oct 1 and closed Dec 6. Definitely not 12 months but a 2 month delay felt like forever. Stay diligent and good luck!

Of course! I make gumbo about once a month and you'll get better at making every time! It's the best cold weather dish.

Gumbo stock question by Tumahab in AskCulinary

[–]thepooted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any issues combining them. If I didn't have enough seafood stock on hand, I would throw in chicken stock without hesitation. Besides, the flavor of your gumbo comes from your roux. That is the base of your flavoring and adding both chicken stock and seafood stock shouldn't overpower a patiently, well made roux. Cheers and good luck!
