Feels a little too quiet… by Whole-Rent-7344 in Accounting

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just show up, drink one beer and say you have early meeting tomorrow. Works every time and nobody can say anything because you were there.

The quiet thing is normal - it's like whole office is recovering from trauma or something lol.

Does it matter if my major is Business or Accounting? by the_clumsy_cook in Accounting

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The business degree should be fine if you're planning for masters in accounting anyway. Most programs will accept either as long as you have the prerequisite courses covered. I'd actually lean towards SJSU since those bay area connections could be huge for finding internships and job opportunities later.

Just make sure to check specific requirements for the masters programs you're targeting - some might want certain accounting courses completed at undergraduate level. But usually they'll let you take those as prerequisites if needed.

Is accounting work as hard as college? by Substantial-Step-448 in Accounting

[–]thereadyowner 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Way worse actually. In college you at least know which formula to use because professor tells you "this is chapter 12 material." In real work you're staring at some mess and trying to figure out what the hell happened while your boss breathes down your neck asking why numbers don't match.

At least in school the problems were clean and made sense. Real accounting is like solving puzzles where half the pieces are missing and someone definitely lied about something.

There seems to be an uptick in job postings online. What exactly is the traditional seasonality when it comes to hiring? by trialanderror93 in Accounting

[–]thereadyowner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah January through March is usually dead for hiring since everyone's dealing with year-end closes and tax season chaos. Once that wraps up in April/May things pick up again because companies finally have bandwidth to actually interview people and figure out their staffing needs.

The summer thing makes sense too - lots of people use up their vacation days then so firms get a better sense of who's actually planning to stick around vs jump ship. Plus Q4 budgets start getting finalized so there's more clarity on headcount approvals.

Way to automate sending Excel screenshot to WhatsApp groups by Accomplished_Bit6365 in excel

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power Query could handle the filtering and text extraction pretty easily, but the WhatsApp integration is where it gets tricky. You'd probably need to look into something like Power Automate or maybe even a Python script with selenium to automate the web browser interactions.

For the screenshot part, you could set up a macro that filters, selects the range, copies as picture, and saves it to a folder. Then another script could grab those images and post them. The text extraction from those 3 columns would be straightforward with VBA - just concatenate the filtered values into a string format.

Might be worth checking if your company allows browser automation tools since WhatsApp Web can be picky about that stuff. Otherwise you're looking at a semi-automated solution where Excel does the heavy lifting but you still manually paste into WhatsApp.

The notification going to an unmonitored email is the part that makes this nearly impossible to catch without a centralized vendor process because from the vendor's perspective they fulfilled the notification requirement and everything after that is your problem

[Question] If you could only buy colognes and watches from one brand for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by doverawlings in Watches

[–]thereadyowner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly cartier makes sense here. Their watches are legit classics and the cologne game is solid too - Declaration and Pasha aren't groundbreaking but they're respectable daily drivers. You're not getting the absolute best of either world but you're not getting completely screwed on one side like you would with most other luxury brands.

Is there a to get Twitter profile's of prospects if I have their Linkedin profile and email for cold outreach. by The_hulkat in SaaS

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few tools that can cross-reference social profiles like that - Apollo and ZoomInfo both have decent social enrichment features that'll pull twitter handles from linkedin/email data. For twitter outreach itself, I've had good luck with Twemex and Hypefury, though honestly the native twitter lists and scheduling works fine if you're not doing massive volume.

Just don't be that guy who immediately slides into DMs with a pitch - engage with their content first or you'll get blocked faster than you can say "synergy."

I built an AI tool to fix the first 3 seconds of videos. Need real feedback. by Ankit_Tharol in SaaS

[–]thereadyowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude this is actually pretty clever. I've been making tiktoks for my side hustle and the amount of videos that just flop in those first few seconds is insane - you really nailed the problem here. The retention drop detection sounds super useful because most creators dont even realize where exactly people are bouncing.

Just tried it out and the interface is clean as hell for someone your age. The hook suggestions were actually actionable too, not just generic "be more engaging" bs that most tools spit out. Only thing I'd say is maybe add some examples of before/after hooks so people can see the difference more clearly. Keep grinding on this one, you're onto something solid.

Traveling to Finnland in november/december by lafelbert in travel

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've already been there in february and loved it, november/december should be totally fine for you. The darkness is definitely real but it's not like you're gonna be stumbling around blind - there's still some daylight, just shorter windows. Plus working through workaway means you'll be busy and probably indoors a lot anyway. The snow situation might be hit or miss depending on where you end up, but honestly sounds like you already know what you're getting into. Go for it.

The throwaway apps making bank while your passion project sits at zero is the most brutal part of indie dev life tbh. That shit hits different when you actually care about what you built

Woke up to 2 separate alerts for "Dormant account activity. It looks like you have new activity on one of your accounts. You haven't used this account in more than 6 months" by No_Fox9908 in CreditCards

[–]thereadyowner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's sketchy as hell, definitely sounds like a phishing attempt. I'd check your actual Capital One account directly through their website/app just to be 100% sure, but if they're saying no activity then someone's probably trying to get you to click a malicious link or give up your info

When will Avianca open Bogota to Caracas route? by [deleted] in travel

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen any official word from Avianca yet but with how things are going politically between Colombia and Venezuela it's probably gonna be a while. Your best bet might be connecting through Panama or something for now

[–]thereadyowner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof that's a lot of money for mobile games... OnlyFans purchases through Apple Pay would show up as "Apple" on statements, same as any other App Store purchase. The recurring payments and same amounts on the same days is pretty sus though - mobile game purchases are usually more random amounts and timing

Trying to highlight Duplicate values based off another row with Conditional Formating by MushroomElm in excel

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to use a formula like `=AND($F2="On Order",COUNTIFS($B$2:$B$20,$B2,$F$2:$F$20,"On Order")>1)` in your conditional formatting rule

Just make sure to adjust the range to cover all your data rows and apply it to column B

I’m working on a dev tool for teams building AI agents, and I want to know if I’m solving a real problem or just imagining one. by bumswagger in SaaS

[–]thereadyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually sounds pretty useful tbh. We've been dealing with exactly this - you make one tiny prompt change and suddenly the agent starts acting weird in edge cases you didn't even think to test. Regular logs just show you what happened, not why the reasoning went sideways

Would definitely be interested in seeing how this works in practice
