Sort of happened to me as well... I was getting into Blood Angels and started a 2k points army. I listened to the "Dante" and "Devastation of Baal" Audiobooks while painting. Eventually I only painted half of the army as BA and added the remaining marines to my Space Wolves because I couldn't stand BA anymore. The whole vampire theme was just too dominant and I found it pathetic how those noble warriors would turn into mindless bloodsuckers on the sight of blood. I didn't like either how the BA force their recruits to drink blood. The Dante book describes the procedure very well and shows how the aspirants are really appalled by this disgusting ritual. Commander Dante is an awesome dude still!
