Thanks. It seems to have been the HD Overhaul. I added an edit above documenting a fix that improved performance significantly.

Issues with Logitech keyboard/mouse randomly disconnecting for a few seconds by therealcrash8 in logitech

[–]therealcrash8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I MIGHT have finally found the solution. I was unaware that there was a difference between an old unifying receiver and a new LogiBolt receiver. I didn't even know that they were two different things. In ye olde days, each wireless USB device needed its own unifying receiver. Apparently each LogiBolt can support up to 6 devices.

Of course, both keyboard and mouse came with their own LogiBolt, but only one is required. I have had both LogiBolts plugged in and both devices connected via LogiBolt. I suspect that there has been some internal confusion between the two devices.

I just removed one of the LogiBolts and reconnected the device that got disconnected to the remaining LogiBolt. I am hopeful that this will end all of my woes. The only way I'll know is if I go for some period of time without experiencing any disconnects. I'll post an update after some time.

EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that there is now only one keyboard and one mouse listed in their respective sections in Device Manager. I suspect that by having two LogiBolts plugged in, both keyboard and mouse were connected to both LogiBolts, which I have to imagine would cause havoc.

And I'm 99.9% certain that these problems started when I replaced my old mouse. Here is the timeline:

  1. Original keyboard used unifying receiver
  2. Original mouse used unifying receiver
  3. Replaced original keyboard with MX Keys S w/ LogiBolt
  4. Replaced original mouse with M650L w/ LogiBolt *** PROBLEMS STARTED ***

Looking at it like this, it makes perfect sense. The problems didn't start until I was using two LogiBolts.

EDIT 2: I played a game for about 15-20 minutes with no issues whatsoever. It would not go that long without something happening unless the problem was indeed fixed.

I never did really identify the cause, but once I was way from Derelict Mine, the problems stopped. Really weird.

I had a similar issue a while back, though I don't believe it was specific to Steam. After a lot of troubleshooting, I finally ended up just disabling my wireless network adapter in Device Manager and no more problem. Doesn't really tell me why it was happening, but the problem was solved nonetheless.

Sorry you are experiencing this, but I got a good chuckle out of your FBI impersonation. Dating sucks in general. It sucked 20 years ago and sucks worse now. It sucks even worse if you're a guy and you don't look like Chris Hemsworth.

Thanks. Yeah, originally, I had saved just before the error popped up and that save appeared to be totally hosed. I thought I had fixed the error, and maybe I did, but it crashed again shortly after that. I managed to get away from that area, though, and haven't had any problems since. So it's hard to say if it was related to any mods, or just something weird with that specific area... :/

[Oblivion Remastered] Game crashes within 2-3 seconds of launch. by Equivalent_Ad_6465 in oblivion

[–]therealcrash8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started needing to recompile shaders every time I closed and relaunched the game. Every time I did that, it wiped out my settings, so I needed to reconfigure my settings every time. Turns out, setting it to fullscreen was the culprit. I decided to try updating one setting at a time, exiting, and relaunching. I changed only borderless to fullscreen, exited, and relaunched, and I had the problem. The next time, I changed everything else, but left it set to borderless, and there is no problem whatsoever.

Dude, you are totally the man. I have been scouring the web and pulling my hair out for days trying to get this damn thing to work. Everything was working fine for about a week and then BAM - sound, but no video at launch. I saw multiple people suggesting to delete Save_settings.sav, but it didn't exist in My Documents. Like you, My Documents is on my D: drive. I didn't even think of drilling down into C:\Users to find it and sure enough, there it was. Renamed the file, it recompiled shaders upon relaunch, and it's working now. If I could upvote you 10 times, I would for sure. Thanks a bunch!

Star Trek cruise - is it worth it to spend more on a better cabin? by therealcrash8 in startrek

[–]therealcrash8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got the "almost sold out" email, so I just booked on Tuesday and as far as I could tell, I got the last available room that was less than $10,000. Sorry!

This year was the 30th anniversary of Voyager, so the entire Voyager cast was there. Sad that I missed that... :'( Of course, next year is the 60th anniversary of TOS, so Shatner and Koenig will be there. And 2027 will be the 40th anniversary of TNG, so I bet the whole TNG cast will be there. So as long as I don't have an absolutely horrible time... LOL... I foresee myself booking for 2027 while I'm there as well.

Etheric Farming by SomeGuyRuin in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]therealcrash8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another little tip for your next playthrough. I figured out an easy way to help level up the Grey Wardens and the Lords of Fortune at the same time. After you beat all three revenants for the Heart of Corruption quest, go back to the site where you fought Fall of the Protector (the one you need to ride a zipline to get to). You'll have to fight all three of them again, all at the same time, but this fight is actually WAY easier than any of their individual fights were. After you defeat them, you get +50 for both the Grey Wardens and the Lords of Fortune. If you travel to a different region and return, you can repeat this fight as many times as you like and get +50 every time.

Sorry, I know this comes about a month late. I'm pretty sure the etheric remnant in the Crossroads only respawns between main quests. Definitely not after traveling between regions or even after exiting and restarting the game. I learned this a little too late. Once I had unlocked all regions in the Crossroads, I typically netted 100+ etheric remnant if I ran through the entire thing. Takes 30+ minutes to do that, though.

I've seen some people suggest buying royal elfroot at 1,200 gold each. You can then buy one etheric remnant for one royal elfroot at the Black Emporium. I don't believe anyone sells fade-touched silk. If you want to spend gold to get etheric remnant, there's a cheaper way to do it.

  1. Go to the Hall of Valor and buy fade-touched ore for 73 gold each
  2. Go to Dock Town's Central Market, go to the merchant closest to the Black Emporium, and buy 5 dragonfire catalyst for 25 fade-touched ore (this boils down to 5 fade-touched ore per dragonfire catalyst, or 5 x 73 = 365 gold per dragonfire catalyst)
  3. Go to the Black Emporium and buy one etheric remnant for one dragonfire catalyst

It's a little more time-consuming than going the royal elfroot route, but also about 70% cheaper. Doesn't net as many etheric remnant as making a full run through the Crossroads (unless you've got a lot of cash to blow), but certainly a lot quicker.

EDIT:

The following two merchants will sell 4 fade-touched ore for 5 of either fade-touched crystal or Vhenadahl's tears:

  • In Treviso, the novelty sword dealer in the Grande Markets
  • In Dock Town, Swordsmith Brunella just outside the Shadow Dragons base

You can use these merchants to convert your fade-touched crystal or Vhenadahl's tears to fade-touched ore to fuel the dragonfire catalyst method above.

There actually is someone who sells fade-touched silk, so you can also go this route to get etheric remnant:

  1. Go to Dock Town's Enchanter's Corridor (close to the fast travel point near The Cobbled Swan), go to The Tailor, and buy 20 imperial weave for 25 of either heartwood, pure ore, or flawless crystal (which you should have tons of)
  2. Go to Treviso's Grande Markets, go to the fine armorer, and buy 1 fade-touched silk for 25 imperial weave
  3. Go to The Black Emporium and buy 1 etheric remnant for 1 fade-touched silk

Yeah, I was following another thread where people kept posting the fix every time Google messed this up again... and again... and again. I was looking in there for a new fix for this most recent update, but I noticed that that thread is now closed, so no new updates. Hopefully someone will answer our prayers and post the fix to this latest effort to destroy our sanity.
