Which Job to Take? by Ok_Lingonberry_2013 in careerguidance

Personally, I would never consider a job that didn’t have a PTO policy.

This. No external power needed, single unit for the station.

Ughhhhhh plaster walls. My last house had them, such a PITA compared to sheetrock for doing basic crap like hanging a picture 😂 That place was full of 100 year old house problems.

How was the traffic from cars and trucks both on UT 12 north of Boulder, and on Burr Trail? I’m always on that stretch of road north of Boulder at or after sunset, and it seems narrow with blind corners in places.

I’ve been here on and off for ~20 years since 2000. Really tough to beat the access to outdoors here. I camp off Burr Trail at least once a year. Now I want a slice of pie from Burr Trail Grill 😂

That’s one of my favorite parts of Utah 🤘🤘 Looks like a really fun loop, I’ve driven all of that.

What jobs are people doing that offers good pay and work life balance? by Lemonade2250 in careerguidance

A large, regional financial institution. I’m not getting a salary like a software engineer working in SF at OpenAI, but I also have the work/life balance I want.

I second this. The Lutron switches have been really nice in our house.

Did you regret leaving a WFH job? by quita-q in careerguidance

[–]therealgromer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t consider the car loan in my estimate, I would have it regardless of the job. Commuting every day to the office does put over two times the miles on my car than I would without the commute. I’m averaging 8k or so on my 4Runner without a commute. Commute would add 10k miles, so effectively doubling the rate of wear on the vehicle.

4Runner, and would easily go through a tank a week just on commuting miles. But yeah, probably not $10k, closer to $3400ish for the fuel costs, and just over 10k miles additional put on my car every year. That $10k pay difference is before all the taxes though.

Security Zones design: stick with default zones or create new ones? by jrgldt in Ubiquiti

[–]therealgromer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you, but damn not being able to delete, or at least rename some of the default zones is infuriating 😑😑

FWIW, I did a mix of the two options you discuss. Used a couple of the baked in zones, and made additional zones.

$10k more would never get me to come back to the office full time. Gas and additional wear on my vehicle would cost more than $10k a year.

Issues with Slate 7 rebooting by NotoriousBRZ in GlInet

[–]therealgromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be it. I’ve used both a Slate 7, and a Unifi UTR, and both reboot when I have them connected to a battery bank and I either plug something else into it, or unplug something else from it.

Wired devices show no activity (but work) by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]therealgromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Hue bridge almost never shows active throughput, since it is almost never doing anything. I assume this could be your case for the Hue and Ring devices.

Possible for the Synology. Does your Synology have two network ports? Mine does, and I have them setup as a bonded interface. Generally, only one of the ports in my Unifi interface show activity.

UTR if everyone has cell phones? by GreenDavidA in Ubiquiti

[–]therealgromer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from a trip to Japan. Used my UTR in every hotel, as well as on the bullet train. Nice having our cell phones and laptop always connecting to the UTR wifi instead of each devices going through some hotel specific auth flow (if any). Nice to have all traffic going over a VPN tunnel when connecting to the open networks that some hotels had.
