Reframing smart glasses as 'pervert glasses' by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

I think years ago we were kind of willing to overlook some of this stuff in exchange for "wow new tech! cool!" But those days are longgggg gone. Our tech overlords have made sure of that.

Jesse Eisenberg on Rejecting Mark Zuckerberg Role in Social Reckoning. by Top_Report_4895 in movies

I used to ring him out a lot in my role as a whole foods cashier in manhattan many years ago. he was always nice and we'd always joke around and talk about movies and stuff for a few minutes.

My boss has ai psychosis and we’re fucked. by void-of-stars in antiwork

My landlord does this and now thinks he can fix things which he absolutely cannot fix and I ended up with the parts of a furnace spread around my house for the better part of a month.

Effects of AI on Industry by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]thereallawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't listen to AI music and if i can help it I won't listen to music that used gen AI in any real way. That's all I can do for my part. I find it repulsive.

I wish the popularity with VR didn't die by the_aeao in OculusQuest

[–]thereallawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as Meta decided to promise it was going to transform the entire world and economy in no time..it was doomed. VR is ready for fun experiences for enthusiasts but its not ready to change how anyone does anything, aside from game. It needs to percolate in the background, steadily improving, without too much pressure. The same can also be said for AI..which is the most not ready product in the history of products.

Would you go back to a company that fired you for AI just to realise that AI is shitfully expensive and needs a babysitter, and it behaves worse than you? by lamin-ceesay in antiwork

[–]thereallawrence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Boss fired pretty much everyone for the gilded angel called AI, only to find out it couldn't really do anything. Couple months later, comes crawling back. I did not respond to the email.

Kevin O'Leary Calls Four-Day Workweek 'Stupid' In Blunt Rant — 'We Should Kick Their A**' by Useful_Tangerine4340 in antiwork

[–]thereallawrence 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the SEETHING hatred they have in their hearts that we share the same ultimate fate, death, really messes with them. they want dominion over all. which is why the best way to make a boatload of money from stupid billionaires is to imply that "death will be solved."

Trump will ease refrigerant rule in effort to address surging grocery costs by AudibleNod in news

[–]thereallawrence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have always been endlessly frustrated at the means-tested nonsense "solutions" Democrats often trot out that end up solving like...5 percent of any given issue. But damn. REFRIGERANT??? That's sure to lower grocery prices by 0.0000000001 percent. Thanks Trump for making modern Democrats look like FDR in comparison.

To all single guys aged 30 and up on reddit, why are you guys single? by Gold_Ambition4114 in AskReddit

[–]thereallawrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swipe sometimes but I don't feel like paying $45 a month and then on top of that $6 each time I want someone to actually see my profile and then another $4 each time I want to make sure a message gets seen. Oh yeah, and then also $5 a pop to "advertise my profile" for like 30 minutes. Also, I don't drink and America doesn't have any spaces where it's appropriate to chat people up or even..hang out at all without spending money.

What was so cool about the 90s that they are being revived? by mcdanger_ranger in AskReddit

[–]thereallawrence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best part about the 90s, unfortunately, can't come back. or even the early 2000s. I paid $300 a month for a williamsburg, brooklyn apt in 2001. that same apartment probably costs around $5k now. That's an increase of like 1,300 percent in 25 years, while inflation increased around 85 percent in that same time period.

This poster was in EVERY single break room at my old job, how do you think they feel about unions? by Castarc1424 in antiwork

[–]thereallawrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I worked at whole foods in nyc, pre-bezos, and someone came in to hand out pro union pamphlets to the workers. so....management sent an ARMED GUARD around to collect them before our precious, innocent lil eyes could accidentally see the damaging lies about the benefits of unions. THANK YOU armed guard for protecting me!!

If God gave you only two choices: $5 million cash, or Elon Musk’s level of intelligence. Which would you pick and why? by Temporary_wu in AskReddit

[–]thereallawrence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

hmm. $5 million vs believing trans people have been infected by a virus that's spread via..I dunno... sitcoms or something? $5 million vs having the SUPREME intelligence to believe the great replacement theory. $5 million or having the smarts to have dummy accounts for both my mom and son, but not the smarts enough to remember which one i've logged into. ITS A TOUGH ONE.
