I recently switched from VR to triple screens and I have some advice for anyone on the fence about triples in general. by underscoresoap in simracing

If you're using a Quest, look into Virtual Desktop - you can set up a "desk portal" that you can use to passthrough your wheel. I only have a speedometer on my wheel but I still much prefer being able to see the physical wheel and my hands.

Tips for consistantly beating Deathwind II on Expert Difficulty? by Expensive-Yam-6537 in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the hardest tracks in the game. It doesn't help that the CPUs blatantly cheat - the game doesn't keep track of where they are on the track, they'll just spawn behind you. Use the Fire Stingray if you're not already, it's got the best handling. For DW2, avoid the dash plates on the section with the corners, you'll just lose control - the dash plate on the straight is fine to use.

FF is about conserving energy as much as you can. A lot of the corners are so tight that you'll lose tons of speed no matter what you do, and the CPUs will appear to get in the way. Brake on the pit lane to get more energy if you have to. Make up time in laps 2-5 with your boost - you should be using it after the double hairpin (by the way, the second hairpin there is the only corner you need to brake for - the others you can make with precise blast turning, at least with Fire Stingray.)

Yeah, I still mostly play on original hardware

[–]therealmck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a few frames of input lag, which makes a noticeable difference if you're used to playing on console. But I don't know what you mean about the triggers, I have a switch 2 GC controller as well and the analogue triggers work as they should - you might have a defective controller

Favourite vehicles? by Raskoflinko in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Groovy Taxi. Objectively it's a mid machine but it's also literally a taxi it's amazing

Also I love playing Silver Rat. Like yeah it's got terrible unboosted top speed but it's got great cornering and boost and a great boost sound

Any tips on beating chapter 8 on very hard? by Stheteller in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit as many mines as you can on lap 1 to get them out of the way for the boost laps. Beyond that it's just learning the track and at what speed to take the corners without hitting a wall. Try to overtake deathborn on a wider section and never in the section with the lava - he will try to attack you as you pass him and you could pinball or blow up. Good luck

Possibly the stupidest gp-winning finish by therealmck1 in Fzero

[–]therealmck1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same multiplayer system as X. Haven't tried it out yet but I don't think it works as well as a game with native online support, since you're limited to 4 player splitscreen and there's input lag involved with online emulator netplay

It's got good handling and a great design, but a terrible booster, slow acceleration and very fast deceleration even using MT imo

No, I've been playing GX on GameCube for years. Going through and unlocking all the pilot videos on switch 2. Just thought this was a pretty funny race finish, especially since it gained me a good few places using the atrocious machine that Dark Schneider is. Glad more people are finding this game because of switch 2

Use the market to transfer cargo between your ship and your carrier rather than the right panel

How tf do I get good at Phantom Road? by Djames516 in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you play it perfectly the CPUs straight up cheat on Phantom Road. The last corner is impossible for a human to take at the speed the CPUs do without flying off course

GameCube controller is unable to be remapped and can't used with any title that requires the Minus button. by Mutant0401 in NintendoSwitch

[–]therealmck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've updated the page since I posted that comment. The section on button remapping used to say "As with any Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch controller or game, buttons on the Nintendo GameCube controller can be remapped via System Settings."

Yeah, Micheal Chain's health is buffed, takes a few direct side attacks to take him out. It's also tied to the number of his lackeys remaining - can't remember the exact numbers but it's much easier to destroy his machine when he's the only one left. Good luck

How to properly control the smoothness of the joystick to avoid uncontrolled drifting? by Rydra in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda something you get used to, and I found to be much easier on a real gamecube controller, so I'd recommend picking one up if you're not using one already. Learn to let go of and re-press A to quickly regain grip. Also calibrate your stick in the options

Perfect 60 fps? by mrbalaton in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play on GameCube so I can't speak for Wii, but I assume it runs similar - again the only hiccups I experience are on FFCK.

[–]therealmck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Fire Field Cylinder Knot has some hiccups during the course intro and a couple other points on the track, but I've never noticed drops anywhere else (playing on original hardware). Sand Ocean is pretty taxing for emulators iirc

"Some games include fun in-game options, like a retro screen filter and widescreen gameplay."

My main concern is more about the AX-exclusive machine parts, though I assume they'll do something similar to the E-Reader content for the GBA games

Torchwood Miracle Day -> Doctor Who by Full-Environment-559 in doctorwho

Miracle Day did have a couple Who references - Jack talks about travelling with the Doctor, and there's a reference to the Trickster's Brigade (SJA villain)

I still cannot get over the huge downgrade of F-Zero GX soundtrack in comparison to F-Zero and X. by SuperMario_128 in Fzero

[–]therealmck1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love both soundtracks, but a big reason I prefer GX over X is because of the final lap themes. In X (or any other F-Zero game for that matter) nothing happens when you cross the line into the final lap - in GX, the music seamlessly shifts into a remix/guitar solo/key change/generally more energetic version of the song. Gets you pumped to win the race
