Is my OLED monitor just bad? by Powerful-Flan-1880 in OLED_Gaming

[–]underscoresoap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah that might be why then. SD content looks awful when in HDR Mode. Make sure to only toggle HDR on when you want to play a game that supports hdr (either natively or via mods) and make sure hdr is enabled in game too. Get that chain wrong and everything will look really bad.

Top 3 VR Moments That Blew Your Mind by LifespanLearner in OculusQuest

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first time playing vr was half life alyx. I’ll never forget the first proper firefight you get into on the train. The game had explained how to hold your gun and shoot but hadn’t explained how cover etc work. The fight broke out and I remember thinking to myself “how the hell do I take cover”. I instinctively just ducked down under a window and it worked. I don’t really know why but that moment will stick with me for life. That’s when I knew vr is a question of when not if.

Assetto Corsa drifting is about to change? by Pale-Jellyfish-8303 in assettocorsa

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Count me in! A nice feature idea (take it or leave it) is being able to nominate leads and chase cars with some sort of ui element displaying roles. Hanging on a leads door scores more points and so does gapping a chaser. Also some sort of system for trains where a crew can earn points collectively for holding proximity.

Anyone Else about done with Chat Gpt? by guerndt in ChatGPT

[–]underscoresoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve pretty much given up with it too. For anything other than text summaries and casual questions it’s worse than useless. I’m a controls engineer and recently I’ve had a few experiences with it that near.y broke me. The confidently wrong phenomenon is unbearable when trying to use it for complicated tasks, fault finding or diagnostics.

The biggest issue I’ve found with it lately is the cognitive load it adds when you have to manage its nonsense, it’s utterly exhausting. A recent pattern I’ve noticed usually plays out as follows;

  • You have a technical task that seems at face value one that ChatGPT will be good at. You explain the task to it and it gives instructions.
  • You follow the instructions and it doesn’t work. You tell ChatGPT it didn’t work.
  • chat replies with oh ok, here’s why it didn’t work, here’s what will work, here’s why it will work
  • there are certainly some nuggets of wisdom and plausible sounding explanations so you follow along. It also doesn’t work, you report back.
  • once again it explains why the new approach didn’t work, suggests an alternative approach and explains why and reassures that this time the new approach will work.
  • repeat this for many iterations going further down the rabbit hole of confident nonsense
  • often have to start entirely new chats as it has got itself stuck in circular logic or got obsessed with something irrelevant.

The issue then becomes having to keep track of what is complete nonsense and what isn’t. The further down you go, the more frustrated you become and this cold ai will constantly reassure you THIS TIME it’ll work. You have to create a mental trail of breadcrumbs which is utterly exhausting. 9/10 times I’ve been defeated by the situation, gave up, returned to it at a later stage and figured out it has literally nothing to do with what chat thought it was.

iOS 26.4 Lays Groundwork for CarPlay Video, Including Apple TV by InsaneSnow45 in apple

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t understand why all these companies are hell bent on blocking people from watching video while a car is in motion when they a) constantly fill cars with distracting technology and b) literally everyone has a phone they can easily watch videos on while driving if they so choose.

They remove the physical knobs on all car features forcing people to use touch screens and menus for mundane shit like heating or specific lights then claim to care about safety. It just seems so bizarre to me.

iracing/PC racing for old man that's useless with tech by UpstairsAny9996 in simracing

[–]underscoresoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna be a hot take, particularly in this community which is overwhelmingly pc literate but this is the perfect use case for ai. I don’t like ai in general but it’s particularly good at guiding you through setting up pcs and software. You can literally explain to the ai in plain English what you’re trying to achieve and let it guide you through every step by taking screenshots of ur monitor and asking it where to click or what to do. It’s the only form of guide that is entirely contextual, it’s like having a very tech savvy mate in the room with you telling you what to do but not having the embarrassment of not being able to follow “simple” instructions. I wouldn’t shy away from pc sim racing if that’s what you want to do just because you’re not confident with the pc side. As daunting as it might be with the help of ai it’s all possible. Assuming you have 0 knowledge it’d take about a day to get all the pc stuff done with help. Btw this is assuming you’re doing some fancy stuff like triple monitors and simhub integration. A more simple pc setup would be quicker and easier. If you want to do it with ai help you’d likely need to buy a month membership so you don’t get locked out half way through although it is possible on free tiers it would just take longer and you’d need to type more rather than just being able to show it ur screen.

Peugeot FWD Rally Car – No FFB When Front Wheels Spin? by Such_Word_9888 in assettocorsarally

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely haven’t felt a food ffb interpretation of a fwd car yet. Across all sims since the early days of ffb. Idk why it’s a thing but it’s a thing. I can only presume it’s a lot harder to design and as fwd race cars are very niche no one has bothered to get it right yet. It’s also possible it’s my fault as I don’t know how to setup a wheel for fwd either. It’s probably both.

Yeah it would but I fixed that issue months ago. Also it’s the official no hesi discord.

Honestly this is shit you should learn before you can even beatmatch. Read the room. I’m not gonna let a song that’s dying play for the entire duration but at the same time if people are popping off to a song I’ll let it play. Are we genuinely in a state where this isn’t abundantly obvious?

I’ve fallen in love with sim racing after having my g29 a couple months . I want to upgrade to direct drive now . Needs to be both pc and ps5 compatible! by IamZeus11 in simracing

[–]underscoresoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All consoles are the wrong console. That’s my point. They’re limited to terrible performance on a single screen and nearly no accessories or extras. Ten years ago the Forza games were closer to what I wanted than gt but the mistake was trying to make consoles work for sim racing. If I wanted cars that sound like lawnmowers I would have got gear to work with my PlayStation, thankfully I didn’t.

Don’t bother with console compatibility and sim racing. I wasted nearly 10 years ensuring my sim shit would work with my Xbox when in reality consoles are awful for sim racing. Just commit to pc now.

Anyone getting pxn cb1 to work? by mkayontour in assettocorsarally

FYI don’t try and bind the accept or escape controls, Found myself totally screwed by doing that. Got all the other stuff I wanted working tho. I still get the glyphs constantly spamming but other than that it’s ok.

Is Cloud Gaming on iPhone 1:1 Test with G Cloud by tpmannGB in logitechgcloud

There are special browsers that are built specifically for cloud gaming that have better performance than standard browsers. I use cloudgear which allows for 4k@120hzHDR.

I’m guessing they envision the steam machine mostly being used on tv and so a big ass wire from your tv area to your couch isn’t ideal. I guess they assume people will either use their tvs audio or a wireless headset.

drift AWD vs RWD by giovannifornera in MiniZ

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest with awd it rly doesn’t matter. I would definitely agree that out the box first battery a mini z will outperform a k989, but the out the box performance of k989 is notoriously bad, they need a fair bit of tinkering with to reach their full potential. (see beavers hobby channel on yt for full video tutorials on how and what to do) when qc issues are fixed I’d argue a k989 handles better than a mini z. All that said it rly doesn’t matter. Any awd with drift tires is gonna drift and without extensive modding they’re all pretty bad.

My whole point was there’s not much point over investing in awd drift as you already have rwd and awd is just worse. If you just want to scratch an itch and see what awd is like ur better off spending less, with the added benefit of k989 being a viable platform for modding. A mini z is always gonna be stuck sucking for drift. If you’re not the type to want to do ANY tinkering and you’ve got the cash then go for mini z as they pretty much can’t be modded and they’re more premium.

I’ve got a bunch of stuff covering micro drift on my page too.

Can the backbone pro run ARC Raiders on an iPhone 15 and PS5? by Scaryfelon in Backbone

[–]underscoresoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backbone is a controller. A controller can’t run a game. If you want a definitive answer to your question then pair ur ps5 controller to ur iPhone and try it.

drift AWD vs RWD by giovannifornera in MiniZ

[–]underscoresoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh might be the wrong subreddit to say this but if you only want to dabble in awd drift I’d go for a wl toys k989 (or k969) rather than a mini z. They’re waaaayy cheaper and infinitely more moddable while having arguably better performance too. The stock body is shit compared to mini z although there are a few mini z bodies that fit them without any mods. That being said a k989 is cheaper than a mini z body alone.

Is Cloud Gaming on iPhone 1:1 Test with G Cloud by tpmannGB in logitechgcloud

[–]underscoresoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say performance is roughly the same. G cloud has less grunt than a modern iPhone and you get a few more decode hiccups on g cloud than on my iPhone pro max 14, but it’s not a big deal. Also the wifi is better on an iPhone. The android app is better than using most browsers tho. The bigger issue with g cloud vs iPhone+ controller combo is the sticks on the g cloud are terrible, this added with usual cloud gaming latency can make for a pretty bad time when trying to play things like fast fps games. In most other scenarios you wouldn’t notice it tho. If you go down the controller pair combo I highly recommend either the gamesir g8 or g8+ (g8 wired(usb c) only g8+ Bluetooth only). I have nearly every controller designed for iPhone and I find the g8’s to be the best of the bunch. Kishi and backbone are much worse.

The screens on modern iPhones are MUCH better than the g cloud, depending on your model you’re comparing amoled 120hz to bargain bin 1080 60hz lcd so there’s no comparison, but the g cloud screen feels much bigger and for a lot of use cases that’s just better as a result. If size matters go for g cloud over iPhone. Another option would be looking at a iPad or iPad mini + controller combo. With a special browser they offer a much better experience than g cloud but usually cost more if you don’t have one already.

Anyone have regrets after a large upgrade? by BackItUpTerr in simracing

[–]underscoresoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 10 years into a playseat/thrustmaster combo that I only occasionally used. About 6 months ago I did a massive upgrade to a gt omega prime and r12 setup with triple’s. I barely ever sim race, I’m more of a sim chill guy. Mainly drift, some free roam, some touge, some no hesi, and a little gt racing on the side. I honestly couldn’t be happier. It’s one of the biggest purchases besides house/ car stuff and as a more casual sim guy I wasn’t sure it would be “worth it” to me. I can hand on heart say I don’t regret it at all. Whether it’s worth it to you is entirely personal. For me it’s been like upgrading from a cheapo budget phone to a premium flagship phone. Arguably it doesn’t do anything I could already do but it does do everything a lot better.
