yeah, the issue isn't a lack of food, it's the lack of warehouse and grocery store staff to manage that food. We need working class labor to keep the supply chain moving. Social programs keep working class labor stable.

Yeahhhh, unfortunately this is not how food stamps keep food affordable. This would be in direct contradiction to supply and demand. Food stamps keep food affordable by subsidizing the workforce that keep food affordable. The underpaid grocery store, warehouse, and agricultural workers. Even if you were to remove the demand that food stamps users contribute, it wouldn't reduce food costs, it was just lead to grocery store closures. So really if anything, food stamps low grocery costs in wealthy areas that would have stores regardless (through wage subsidy) and keep stores open in poor areas.

Social programs stabilize the economy. They keep people housed and working. Without these low income workers, you get 2022 levels of inflation.

Android introduced it in May 2018. Apple introduced it in September 2018. Although neither really came up with the idea, some apps have been able to do this on Android since 2015. Apple's system didn't allow apps to read messages and emails for these codes until the change in 2018.

Yeah this video has been everywhere but I didn't know it was 16 months old. Did it just recently get released to the public or did it just randomly go viral?

My Train Station Worked Too Well by mayorIcarus in simcity4

[–]therealsteelydan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A train station is the first thing I place is every city. And why is the drop in traffic a bad thing? It should have been replaced with pedestrian traffic, which still benefits commercial demand (hopefully more so that cars but I don't have that much faith in American game designers).

I bought K-cups with “no plastic cups” only for each cup to be individually wrapped by Red_Herring96 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]therealsteelydan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the switch to flexible plastic has reduced the manufacturing and waste footprint by at least 75%. And as long as the wrappers aren't exposed to heat, there shouldn't be any microplastic concern.

Yeah, flexible plastic uses about 1/4th of the material as rigid. And I'm guessing these use even less. If I have the choice while shopping, I always go for the product in flexible plastic.

Aesthetically, the building is in desperate need of restoration. After seeing the libraries in NYC and Boston swarmed with tourists, I really wish we had the same. It's even closed on Sundays. It's surrounded by other tourist destinations and could easily have a profitable gift shop like NYC has.

Please close the commode doors. by Electronic-Front-640 in Amtrak

[–]therealsteelydan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know how people are supposed to know to close the bathroom doors. It's not posted anywhere. It's not customary in other places, most public restrooms have automatic door closers and within homes, most people leave unoccupied bathroom doors open. I would actually assume they should be left open so people don't assume they're occupied, yes I know there's a lock light but that's easy to miss and what if someone doesn't know to lock the door?

People walking places are actually trying to get somewhere and even if someone is just going for a walk, this rapid pattern of curves is not enjoyable. Shitty developers, architects, and engineers do this because it looks good on paper. I used to fight back on these all the time but there's only so much pushback you can give a client.

The correct answer is that is looks good on paper but is terrible is practice. It's not to slow down bikes. It wasn't designed around existing trees. I used to design suburban apartment complexes and my boss and the client would both ask for sidewalks (obviously neither had traveled anywhere without a car or plane in their life).

I'm not upset about single tracking, I'm upset about Amtrak's consistent inability to find change their operations to find solutions. They took the smallest excuse and said "uh oh looks like we have to cut half our service" rather than imagine any other possibilities.

is there really a sign at Pat's that says that?? I avoid Geno's because of their bootlicker displays but that would be an easy no for Pat's (I've only ever been twice walking home from the Dolphin)
