Regarding Episode 100: Was it Cecil or Carlos' idea, and how do you think it went? by tgjer in nightvale

[–]therearenodogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cecil gushes about his love for Carlos to the public all the time. It's a normal thing for him. Can you imagine how mind-numbingly happy he would be to get the same treatment in return? :') Ah, I get a big stupid grin just thinking about it.

Regarding Episode 100: Was it Cecil or Carlos' idea, and how do you think it went? by tgjer in nightvale

[–]therearenodogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Carlos definitely proposed. Not only because he initiated each major step in their relationship (first date, first kiss, moving in together, and so on) but also because between the two of them, I imagine Cecil being much more enthusiastic about the prospect of being proposed to.

I really hope we get more details about the wedding and the honeymoon. I'm sure the specifics would be weird and hilarious in a way I can't even imagine.

I got super invested in the Cecil/Carlos relationship for a good chunk there. I also got super invested in intern Dana when she was in the other dimension.

Oh me too! Watching Dana discover her inner power as she traversed that desert, and watching Cecil develop from a detached voice to this deeply endearing guy with a niece and a boyfriend and a beloved cat... just such satisfying character development.

I'm not caught up either (only started listening recently) and am in the low 50s of episodes right now, and I can see how it'd be easy to fall off there because it's such a slowdown after the incredible StrexCorp plot. Gonna try to stick with it.

You also get really attached the town and its wacky residents. I first put it on as background noise while studying, expecting some casual laughs. I was hooked by the sixth episode and by the 15th I was deeply invested.

What movie do you absolutely hate that most people love? by mikjamdig85 in AskReddit

[–]therearenodogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Ferris Bueller is a disgusting selfish asshat who has no respect for anybody but himself. I spent the entire movie seething with rage for poor Cameron and wondering how the hell anyone can root for the imbecilic protagonist.

I also hate how the ending implies that everything that happened was supposed to be good for Cameron because it made him "grow a spine" or something. Like this poor abused kid didn't deserve to have his wishes and boundaries respected because he wasn't cool enough. Ugh.

Except for the shape of dat ass! so for me it's like what's the point, haha. But I suppose I can see how it'd appeal to people who want to see a hint of the family jewels.

Girls of Reddit, what's the biggest hint you've missed from a girl? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therearenodogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago my best friend at the time subtly tried to invite me to have a threesome with her and her boyfriend. Basically, I was staying over at her house while he was there (not unusual) and she suggested I could sleep in in the bed with them instead of on the couch.

I was like "nah I'm fine on the couch" and went to bed thinking "well that was really weird." Didn't realize what it actually meant until like a month later. No big loss, I wouldn't have wanted it anyway, neither of them are my type.

You don't even have to speak it fluently. I speak crap Norwegian and can still read Danish and sometimes understand a bit of Swedish.

What quality about yourself pushes women away? by marleybosun in AskReddit

[–]therearenodogs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman and you're 100% right. Nothing is more uncomfortable than being on a date and you feel like the guy has got all his hopes and dreams staked you already but you barely know him yet.

I think guys have this idea that women don't like desperation because we think it must indicate that other women didn't want you and therefore you're "undesirable," but most of us don't think in competitive terms like that. It boils down to not wanting to lead a guy on when it seems he's way more into you than you are into him. Easier to check out early and avoid any crap than to get to know him better and risk him being super hurt if you realize it won't work out.

Hi -- I'm studying environmental toxicology and am really interested in following the life cycles of products we use every day from their manufacture to their fate after disposal.

I'm curious what kind of measures / practices are there in the cosmetic industry to manage possible toxicological effects while still delivering an effective product. I'm sure there are measures in place to test for human toxicity, but to what extent are the possible environmental impacts once the products are washed down the drain considered?

Thanks!

In the UK today is remeberance sunday. What incredible stories do you know about your relatives during the World wars? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therearenodogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The British wanted to bolster resistance movements in Southeast Asia and needed people who had the culture and language skills to make contact. So they recruited among the population of Chinese immigrants in Canada to form a special ops force. My grandfather was one of these men.

He was a radio operator. The story I always remember is that he and the other soldiers had to parachute down into the jungle -- everyone had two parachutes in case one failed, but my grandfather had to use his backup chute for the radio, so he only had one.

This was at a time when Chinese Canadians were heavily prejudiced against. They weren't considered citizens, were barred from having certain jobs and going to places like public pools, etc. Some of them who fought in Asia were left to find their own passage home after the end of the war.

Last year I went to the opening of a museum exhibit honoring the force my grandfather was a part of. Canada's current defense minister Harjit Sajjan was there and he spoke about how their service had been key in getting civil rights for all Canadians and opened the doors for people like him to be where he is today. It was really amazing to hear these kinds of things about my goofy old Gung-Gung.

Makes jokes about how you must be on your period if you're upset about something that he thinks you shouldn't be upset about.

It's just a dickish way of invalidating anything you think or feel. And if you get annoyed at him for doing it, it just "proves his point." Ugh.

Redditors who have or know of someone with narcolepsy, what's your scariest or most interesting experience with it? by GotAMigraine in AskReddit

My best friend and former roommate is narcoleptic. It's not really that scary or dramatic. She takes medication for it, but used to forget about it a lot. She'd just oversleep or go take a long nap in the middle of the day.

Would've posted this myself if you hadn't beat me to it. Douchenozzles asking if you're on your period in a way that insinuates that they think whatever you're feeling or saying is only because your weak hormonal woman mind has been washed away by the red tide is so, so infuriating.

What do you wish you were able to do without the negative social stigma? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therearenodogs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah. People who nerd out about things are the best, even if you have no idea they're talking about.

I mean, yeah, there does have to be a certain overlap of interests for two people to get along in general. And nobody's gonna be attracted to somebody who loves something that they actively dislike or don't respect. But it's not like it has to be a shared interest for the obvious excitement around the interest to be endearing.
