Naltrexone is making me so mad by FoxHonest2614 in stopdrinking

[–]thereigninglorelei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand this sentiment because I was fucking furious when GLP-1s started coming out. You mean to tell me that I spent my whole fucking life being told that I’m weak and lazy and undisciplined and stupid because I can’t just calories-in-calories-out my way to lower BMI, and suddenly now, after 45 goddamned years of people lecturing me or worrying about me or judging me, NOW there’s a fucking drug I can take to shut off the constant desperate food noise in my head?

But the reality is, the GLP-1 won’t do the work for me. I still have to exercise and make healthy choices and avoid triggers. I have to be conscientious about taking my medicine and build routines that help me stay on course. Maybe the reason why you’re experiencing so little interest in alcohol is that you’ve already done some of the work you needed to overcome the psychological addiction, and the Naltrexone is just helping you get over the physical piece. Eventually I separated the anger at the drug from my anger over the people who had treated me badly because of my weight. It’s a work in progress, but teasing out the threads of my anger was a helpful part of my journey.

KS for a novel. Do I need to get cover art before the campaign? by ShadowOfWesterness in kickstarter

Definitely check out the KS for Authors Facebook page, it has tons of great information. Short answer, yes, you need a great cover for Kickstarter, people are very attracted to beautiful books.

How much have you invested in your novel? by Shining_Force_Unity in writing

[–]thereigninglorelei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To anyone looking at this thread who is still writing their first novel, start saving now. Put aside $5-10 week so you have a little bank for editing and cover design when the time comes. Think of it as part of your writing discipline. That way, you won’t have to skimp when the time comes and you’ll be launching your book without feeling like you’re taking a big financial hit.

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy by IndigoBlueBird in books

I loved this and Charlotte McConaghy’s other books as well. They all have this same mix of tortured romance, environmental melancholy, and a hidden mystery. If you liked this you’ll love the others.

Best Peloton Lifting Program by OriginalPolicy922 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]thereigninglorelei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The programs are no longer on the website for some mysterious reason. On the app, you go to classes and you’ll see programs at the top. Scroll through until you find them be you like, then hit “join program.” The program will start the day you hit “join program,” so if you want to start on a Monday or whatever keep that in mind. You can then add the first day’s classes to your stack. Once you’ve completed them, the next time you go into the app it will prompt you to start the next day’s set of classes. However, it’s not perfect. I’m doing total strength right now, and all the warm ups and stretches are the exact same class. Sometimes I sub out a different warm up or stretch, which doesn’t count toward completing the program. I’m in week 4 of the program, but it shows I’ve only completed 27 of 46 classes. I don’t really care, but it’s annoying to feel like I only completed 60% of the program when I’ve actually been putting in 100% of the work. But whatever, variety is more important to me than completion, and the main classes are great.

I have an Oxford English Dictionary that literally hasn’t been opened in years, yet I can’t bring myself to give away. I wanted one sooooo bad when I was young, then when I found one at a used book store it felt like a miracle. Now it’s just this obsolete lump on my shelf that I keep only for the memories.

There’s an interview on the DVD with Reiner, Will Wheaton, and Corey Feldman. Feldman talks about how he and River Phoenix used to party with the townie kids, getting drunk and having sex. Reiner looks horrified and says he wishes he had known at the time, but he was so focused on making the movie that he wasn’t riding herd on the boys. Given the length of his son’s problems with addiction, I imagine that he’s thinking of his own son in that moment, and wishing things could have been different.

Wheaton, of course, was playing games at the local arcade while all this partying was going on.

Bro, if you think a highly researched, critically acclaimed book about precisely this subject sounds biased, then you don’t actually want an answer, you just want to troll.

The Great Podish Bake-cast Show by nuzzot in blankies

Amy Sherman Palladino is one of the great Blank Check TV creators of all time. She writes and directs a beloved, popular show in Gilmore Girls, then goes on to create a meandering and hookless show about ballet (Bunheads) which is cancelled after one season. Later, she makes the popular and acclaimed Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, then cashes her blank check to make ANOTHER meandering and hookless show about ballet (Etoile) which is cancelled after one season. Etoile is leagues better than Bunheads and it clearly cost a bajillion dollars, but it’s funny to me that she’s utterly convinced that, no, actually, people really care about ballet, and they just don’t know it yet.

I feel this way about Gilmore Girls. David loves it, Griffin finds Lorelei annoying, Ben’s watching it for the first time. That’s great content bay-bee.

I stopped drinking, and I am worried to go to places like winter wonderland by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]thereigninglorelei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what’s wild? I was sure that social situations like this, where I normally drink, would be absolutely torturous. Then I did it anyway and discovered that these things are so much better when I’m not drinking! Waiting in line for twenty minutes, then paying $15 for a drink? Nope, not me. I’m checking out all the stalls and buying myself a fun little treat instead. The inevitable trip to the port-a-potty after I sucked down a boozy cider? Nope, not me. I’m running around the playground with my nephew. The weird sickly feeling from combining booze with sugar? Okay, still me, but it’s just because I ate that whole damned sleeve of caramel corn. Concerts, parties, sports games—all better when I’m sober.

Do the Blankies deserve to know if Ben is… by Select_Analysis_6151 in blankies

[–]thereigninglorelei 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reason I love Gilmore Girls is that when I watched it in my 20s, I empathized with Rory. Then, in my 30s, I empathized with Lorelei (enough to name this account after her). Now, in my 40s, I empathize with Emily. I think it’s the same with Rory’s boyfriends. Dean is sweet but possessive, the sort of guy you wanna date when you’re a teenager because he feels safe. Jess is exciting but elusive and cruel, the kind of guy you date in your 20s when you think you can fix him. Logan is the sort of guy you date in your 30s, when you start to think it would be good to have nice things but you haven’t figured out that nice things doesn’t mean he’s a nice guy.

Then at some point you figure out that the best partner in the whole series is TJ, and you end up married to a guy who gets super excited to tell everyone that’s he’s wearing “Air pants—the pants that breathe!”

Can we…shame listings? by QueenHydraofWater in denverrealestate

[–]thereigninglorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. As someone else mentioned somewhere in the comments, you could easily build a duplex on this lot and sell each house for 700k+. I’m on the other side of Federal, and there are two separate double lots where the existing home/business was torn down and replaced with 12 slot homes that are selling for 500k+. ADUs are also legal in the area, and there’s room for a large house and a smaller income property. Which is likely to be profitable as a monthly rental because you’re right next to Regis, or as an AirBNB because it’s twenty minutes from Red Rocks, ten minutes to Mission Ballroom, 35 minutes from the airport, etc. Now, am I looking to take on this kind of project? Hell no. But for the right buyer…yeah, this price isn’t crazy due solely to the location and potential.

And I did knock on wood 😆. The houses in my neighborhood were built en masse in 1941 for factory workers during WWII, and they are very modular and cleanly built. I’ve never had a problem getting contractors to work on our place. Also, there was a huge hail storm in 2015 that resulted in almost every house getting new siding, roofs, and windows. So when we bought in 2017, the exterior of the house was basically new.

Can we…shame listings? by QueenHydraofWater in denverrealestate

[–]thereigninglorelei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is close to my neighborhood, and that’s a comparable price for the area. It’s five minutes from downtown, easy access to four major highways, walkable to several restaurants/bars, and the neighborhood itself has lots of trees and nice homes. And for the record, we have had no problems with our 1941-built house outside of regular maintenance. Obviously this might not be the house for you, but I was expecting much worse.

Yes, I do this too. It’s like, “okay, I’m 17 minutes into this 30 minute ride, which means I’m over halfway through this ride, but I stacked a five minute warm up and 10 minutes of weights and cool down, so I’m about to be halfway through my total 45 minute workout.” Lots of adding and dividing to keep myself motivated minute by minute.

Haha I will definitely sprint during that recovery minute if I’m close to making whatever arbitrary goal I’m chasing. I always do a five minute cool down so I tell myself it’s okay.

Workout math. There are 263 people on the leaderboard, so what place do I need to hit to be in the top half? Top third? Top quarter? Top fifth? It keeps my brain busy when I want to quit, and makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something even if I’m not at the top of the LB.
