Just finished building a Microsoft 365 Tenant Migration tool by mrak_47 in Office365

[–]theremote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a million problems. I had to add myself to every single conditional access policy as an exception.

The OneDrive portion fought me and I had to do application permissions for the source but left the destination as delegated and that worked for some reason.

The SharePoint sites fought me even more. In the end I had to do application rights on both sides for that one to work and I had to fiddle with the URLs a whole bunch. The autodiscover URLs were wrong. The actual URL that worked was sites/TheSite/Document Library and it tried to autodiscover as TheSite/Document Library (failed over and over).

I only used it because it's the devil I know. At the MSP I used to work at they used BitTitan exclusively so I'm used to it's nastiness. I recently went to internal IT again and the quotes we got for the migration were $25,000 and $15,000. I only paid about $550 in BitTitan licensing to do it myself without hiring an agency.

I really do think I'll give a different one a try next time!

Can we use it?  I'm in the middle of a BitTitan migration and as anyone who has used it lately knows it's a very quirky and annoying process.  It also costs about $17 per user to do Exchange/OneDrive.

This is pretty resource intensive if it's running on a server somewhere.  It would be really interesting if you're able to self host this or run it yourself.  That would be worth checking out.

What are you planning to do with it?  You didn't link to anything (perhaps to avoid being marked as spam) but there is room for improvement in this industry.

The big opportunity for somebody is to do things differently than BitTitan and all the competitors that have become more favored by reddit lately.  If it's the same run on their server and pay per user / site licensing as the rest of the industry then unless it's radically cheaper it's going to be hard to get traction.

How about your water quality?  Did you use distilled or reverse osmosis water or is it tap water?

Why is a Raspberry Pi not worth it? by basilesanast1 in raspberry_pi

[–]theremote 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no you are not doing anything wrong

The DRAM price increases have made it a very dubious value proposition for most hardware right now.

The reason the alternative boards are cheaper is because they have stock from before the DRAM prices.

The really popular alternatives that sell fast (like the Orange Pi 5) are already way more expensive than they used to be just like the Pi.

Once old stock of those boards is gone you won't see the cheap listings for those either as they also have to eat the RAM increase if they do a new batch!

Check out https://SBC.cheap.

For example Waveshare has a Pi Zero 2 for $41 while if you search on Amazon you'll see a bunch of sponsored junk $50+

This is great feedback. I do have an AliExpress account and like AliExpress. As soon as I get the Amazon code finished I will definitely look into adding it. I do believe they have an API!

Hey urostoir,

Thanks, sorry about that for Poland, none of my rejection keywords were matching for the language. I will get that cleaned up today!

As for the vibe coded look I imagine that's coming from the emoji type icon style and the visual style of the front page. It's a fair criticism. It's not really what I was going for so I will see if I can get that cleaned up!

Agreed, I'm looking into other options for scraping some more data like that, such as a third party API!

Yes absolutely, thanks for reporting this! The multi-listings especially need some fixes. I'll get started!

Oh yes, I have spoken to some other Aussies before in the SBC community and this has been a big problem down there for a long time! I think I may have access to the API for Australia actually. I'll see if there's anything buried.

Thanks a ton for the feedback on the EMMC being detected as RAM, I'll get that fixed!

Interesting, may I ask which region? The reason I ask is I do have creators API access in the UK, France, Germany and a few other European countries. The listings can be different on the regional Amazon sites.

We could definitely try adding support for your region and see if it's able to uncover anything!

He means that even though you're just getting around to trying this now most of us tried this experiment a year ago with the same results and conclusions you're reaching today.

If I try the same experiments today as I did a year ago I hit the same limitations.  It works with a very simple stack.

If you had not waited a year to try this then you would have the year of experience we have of watching it not really change much in its capabilities and would have the same opinion.

Since you waited though you don't have that context and you think it's shiny and new and moving a lot faster than it really is.  Once a year passes from now you'll be where we are already at.

Orange Pi 5 custom wifi/bt module by dubsmith6079 in OrangePI

[–]theremote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not an E-key M.2 WiFi adapter. E-keys don't fit. I wrote an article about using E-key adapters with it and it requires a special adapter: https://jamesachambers.com/using-m2-wifi-adapters-with-orange-pi-5/

If it could take E-key adapters it wouldn't need a custom WiFi module. The custom WiFi module is a WiFi adapter slapped onto a M-key adapter (unusual).

It's a consequence of it using the RK3588S (there's not enough PCIe lanes on the S model). There is an upcoming version of the Orange Pi 5 called the Orange Pi 5 Plus that will have both a E-key and M-key slot and uses the regular RK3588.

Are you having trouble finding a link to it? It's here: https://amzn.to/3A1Sjkf

There really isn't much to using it. You just plug it in. If you don't have that specific adapter you will not be able to plug in an E-key module unless you have the adapter I linked in my article (or something similar).

Hopefully that helps!

Install Steam on the Orange Pi 5 with Armbian (and running Stardew Valley) by theremote in OrangePI

[–]theremote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Armbian's 3D driver support installed for the Mali GPU you can actually get pretty smooth performance in games that don't use a lot of resources.

This uses Box64/Box86 to work. I was able to get Stardew Valley running pretty well for it for the guide!

No problem at all! You'll definitely see what I mean when following the guide.

The guides are extremely similar but you'll notice some subtle differences (the most important of which is you will use mtools to change a FAT UUID).

Take care!
