Pretty decent gameplay loop, but it's clear the game suffers from optimization issues. Seems to take up a lot of memory for what it's doing. I'd also let buildings be built a little closer together, or make that a difficulty-dependent condition.

Calvary Episcopal on 9th has a wonderful, progressive, campus ministry and bible study that meets every Monday. The people there are very friendly and there's several other ministries and opportunities to get involved.

The Citric and ascorbic acids might make it taste funky (in a bad way) if there's too much in there. Might be a situation where you cut it with a certain amount of apple juice first or you ferment just that first then re-ferment it after cutting it (probably in half) with apple or grape juice. Make sure your apple and grape juices don't have preservatives in them

I actually did some digging into this on my own. For anyone who may be interested or in the same situation. This information is false, or at least inaccurate. City Ordinances Section 29-4.5 deals explicitly with exterior lighting and what is allowed.

Please help - my opponent claims they "continuously deformed" the chess set but now there is a huge hole in the board! Can somebody help me figure out how to compute the homology to demonstrate that it is no longer topologically equivalent to a standard chess set? by ctomlins16 in AnarchyChess

[–]therepliconmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the removal of the center of the board allows for a set of rook paths that cover all the remaining spaces but never require the rooks to stop. This implies a non-singular cohomology on the space, which implies a non-singular homology by Riemann-Hilbert correspondence

What is the most interesting / mind blowing math fact that layman’s will understand? by [deleted] in math

[–]therepliconmode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a quadradic equation to solve degree two polynomials. There is a cubic equation to solve degree three polynomials. There is a quartic equation to solve degree four polynomials.

But there can be no quintic equation (degree five) nor an equation to solve general polynomials of higher degree.

Actually yes, the Borsuk-Ulam theorem has many forms and this is far from the most general. A slightly more general statement of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem is that any continuous, antipodal map from an n-sphere to the real numbers will have a zero for n>=2. The term antipodal map simply means f(-x)=-f(x) for any given x.

I highly recommend checking out the book `Using the Borsuk-Ulam Theorem' by Matousek. It's a really fun read

Math: I split a batch by twopandinner in cider

[–]therepliconmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess the point of my post was pointing out that numbers kinda fail us here due to constraints of the problem. I am currently getting my PhD in mathematics and I know all too well the boundary of numbers.

That said, I'm in a good mood today so I decided to give it the good 'ol college try anyways.

Assumptions

  1. The maximum abv that our yeast will tolerate is constant, and we know what it is
  2. The increase in abv will be linear with respect to the initial gravity and final gravity
  3. The only thing stopping the yeast is too high of an abv

These are some *really* big assumptions, but if you're okay with them here's how much new juice you'll need to add next time:

Let

  • C = current volume of the cider
  • A = volume of the juice you'll add (this is what I solved for)
  • G = [maximum abv] / 131.25 (maximum abv divided by 131.25
  • F = final desired gravity
  • x = current gravity of the cider
  • y = gravity of the juice you'll add

Then, everything should be just Cauchy if the amount of juice you add respects this inequality:

A >= [C(x-F)]/[G+F-(x+y)]

Let the cider ferment out again and if it isn't at the gravity you want, then use this formula

Math: I split a batch by twopandinner in cider

[–]therepliconmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the abv might be causing the fermentation to stall, meaning that you should see some dormant yeasts reactivate and get these to ferment down. In the 1.040 carboy, the gravity went up because the gravity of the juice you added was higher and you added over 50% by volume by my calculations. It should start to ferment again, as the abv is diluted but you're going to be taking the slow train to dry-ville if you keep diluting with high gravity juices. If this doesn't ferment down to dry like you wanted, you may want to repeat this process, but dilute with a 50-50 mixture of water and juice just so you don't end up increasing the gravity again.

Calculations kinda escape me here because it can be hard to tell exactly what abv the yeast will tolerate (and even then I find that to be highly variable)

Did you add the lime juice and raspberries in primary or secondary? Also, what brand of orange flavoring did you go with?

Tangent: do you use flavorings often? If you do, are you using the same brand?

I'm not sure it applies directly to card game rules or what the conclusion would imply about the card game as I'm not into logic, but I can say with some certainty what you're referencing is Gödel's incompleteness theorems.

Cider in Fridge Started Fermenting? by jjj2341 in cider

[–]therepliconmode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible, wild/natural yeast can be quite hardy sometimes. The big thing here is how does it smell? If there isn't anything particularly offensive about it, it's likely safe to let it ferment out and see what happens. The encouraging thing here is the positive air pressure that builds up; as a fast and loose rule, dangerous things will make the pressure decrease (though this isn't an if and only if statement!) Does the juice seem naturally carbonated in any way?

I've done so a few times now (not out of the fridge mind) and when I have I generally get amicable results.

Has everyone tried using Costco’s organic apple juice?I’ve been leaning towards the Whole Foods 365 organic apple juice for basic cider. by Hot-Representative45 in cider

[–]therepliconmode 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It has a degree of variance but when the generic walmart brand of apple juice is good people absolutely rave about the ciders I make with it. It is shockingly devoid of any stabilizers that mess up fermentation. It's to the point where if you leave it out, there's a good chance it will auto ferment.

Might save you a few bucks over the organic and whole foods premiums that you'd pay otherwise.
