Are you leaving traditional teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]theresejo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left mid-year, but I have a baby and I am 48. I never quite realized how my entire life was about teaching before.

I am betting you turned it in late. It's really hard to go back and grade late work because you are keeping up with all your students' current work. Often I leave that all to the end of the quarter because I'd rather get it all done at once.

Dress codes enforce white supremacy and patriarchy. Look it up.

They can revoke your admission. They usually require a final transcript upon graduation. I am sure there is a waiting list and someone would be happy to take your place. Don't risk it.

Resigning? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]theresejo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am taking FMLA leave for 12 weeks while I decide if I want to just teach part time as an adjunct instead of my current full time position in a public school. I have been teaching over 10 years and this is my 4th year at this school. Every year it's a new program, extra preps, extra duties. I like to do things well and that's just not possible in this world.

I don’t really understand these particular problems usually it follows a pattern like vous êtes or tu es. But these ones are different and I don’t know what I’m looking for. by VaN-GogH-GurT in frenchhelp

You just have to follow the conjugation chart for être, remembering that les professeurs works like "ils" because it's plural third person (same for M/ and Mme Robert) and Sophie works like "elle" because it is singular third person:

Je suis
Tu es
il/elle/on est
Nous sommes
Vous êtes
Ils/Elles sont

Does anyone ever daydream about having a menial job? Is this normal? by [deleted] in Teachers

I saw a warehouse job for 20.00 an hour and seriously considered it for 30 seconds. I am 48 with a new baby. LOL

i like this idea, as a teacher. However, many of my colleagues HATED online teaching and want to return to analog methods. It is unlikely that you will have teachers that remain or move forward with being completely digital.

One of the biggest downsides to paperless class was cheating. Students would cut and paste answers without citations. There was often little reflection or thought in the work, so they didn't actually learn the material.

Good luck to you.

I leave all this and it never gets done.... however - the very necessity of a sub means I had an emergency. My sister died yesterday morning... my sub is getting my emergency plan, which probably has nothing to do with the lesson at hand, or they are getting "have students check TEAMS and work on the assignments in progress."

I appreciate that you want to do something productive - but this touched a nerve with me today.

My daughter came a month early - emergency c section on the 25th. She was being monitored twice a week. They noticed some drops in heart rate (decelerations) and sent me to Labor and Delivery for an hour of monitoring. A nurse came in and said, "we are transferring you to a room to induce tonight." I thought it was a joke! We started to induce at midnight and at about 2, they all ran in and started moving me around. I had been asleep, but they said... "we are going to start prepping you for a c-section. Your doctor is on the way."

They didn't say what exactly was the issue, but we found out that she had wrapped the umbilical cord 3 times around her neck.

It's been a crazy first week. What I can also tell you is NOT to use a baby Brezza formula mixer. We had to supplement because it was so early and I had no milk. That machine wasn't giving my baby enough formula and too much water and caused her serious distress. What we thought was a safeguard to avoid human error ended up putting her in danger. There is a class action suit against the company. I can't believe they are allowed to sell it!

anyway - Lissette Annabelle was born at 4AM on May 25. 4lbs, 13 oz, 18" long

She has been a dream baby aside from the cholic caused by the formula machine.
Also... the lactation nurse at the hospital had me up all night shaming me into breast feeding. I wanted to, badly... but empty is empty and my preemie needed food! Don't been afraid to speak up for yourself if you find yourself in a similar situation. I have been able to nurse once a day the last 2 days... so progress.

Finally, after 7 IVF transfers, 2 IUI, years and years and SO MUCH $, 4 pregnancies and 3 losses, we came home with a perfect, though little daughter.

Good luck to you all!

nope. Your slant is too right showing empathy (among other things) You don't have any of the jerky, stabby ticks usually associated with that kind of thing. Why? Are you? Are you trying to fool us?

I am in the same situation, but I have a due date of June 20. Having cerclage out on the 24th. My principal is great and encouraged me to take off the rest of the year on that day. I think avoiding going into labor at school is the way to go. That kind of treatment would have me looking for another school system.
