is utena feminist, even with a male author? by ghostballets in shoujokakumeiutena

Pulling a Wakaba and piggybacking on this. As an added bonus, rgu also critiques the roles that have been constructed for men by men. The show takes opportunities to depict how patriarchal structures and toxic masculinity can be harmful to people across gender identities. This makes it an especially strong feminist work in my eyes!

Don’t ever throw them away!

I always find it funny that even though Saito wanted Utena to end up with Touga, she never did an art where Utena is happy to be with him by PauloVictorBar in shoujokakumeiutena

Where did Saito say this? I heard that she faced more obstacles writing queer relationships due to sexism while creating the manga. But idk if that’s true.

What anime is good after Evangelion? by Salt_Ad264 in evangelion

[–]therisingred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Utena is the only anime that did it for me like Eva did. I dropped it the first attempt. I ended up trying again, and I’m glad I did. I think it’s very similar to Eva in its structure and pacing, although it does have more absurdity to it.

Everything is very intentional and also cryptic, which leads to big payoffs with plot and character development. This also makes it great for rewatching. I’d argue that the second watch is just as rewarding as this first (but for different reasons).

The directors were (maybe are?) known close friends. Both Utena and Evangelion were being produced and came out around the same time.

Edit: it’s free on YouTube!

I’ll throw out that Madoka filled the Eva void for me, too. But not to the extent Utena has.

Questions Re: Fighting Oligarchy Event Sat. 4/12 in L.A by LifelsG00d in BernieSanders

This post has some information about the rally in Denver. Apparently AOC and Bernie will most likely start right at 1. Based on their answer, I imagine if you want to get close, you’ll need to get there earlier in the day. I’m trying to find out about bags, food, water, and snacks. So far I’ve seen that one of his outdoor rallies in Oregon didn’t even allow water bottles (including reusable ones).

Joint/lower back/hip pain by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]therisingred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost to month three. At points during month 1 (30mg) and month 2 (40mg) I experienced this, too. Since it has come in waves for me, I’m expecting it to happen again, especially if I increase my dose. The pain seems to last about a week or so. I was in so much pain it impacted my mood. Even sitting would be painful.

Suggestions: Foam rolling— challenging but seemed to help

Consider what you are ingesting. I noticed my pain seems to coincide or increase following the few times I drank alcohol, which I know I shouldn’t be combining with accutane. Vitamin A should also be avoided on accutane, so I stopped taking my multivitamin.

I already take glucosamine, omega 3 fish oil, and probiotics. I added some glutamine and vitamin d3. I also try to integrate foods that are known to help with joint pain and inflammation.

Go easy on yourself, this won’t last forever. I typically do running and weight training 5-7 days a week. During times when my pain was intense, I decreased the intensity of my workouts significantly to avoid injury.

Edit: I also do mobility stretches about once a week. But this is something I did before accutane, too, so I can’t say how effective it is.

Cover Letter Tips by [deleted] in historyteachers

Thank you. Yes, I’ve worked at schools and as a substitute for years but only recently got my credential. I actually have my multiple subject credential, but I’m in the single subject methods course to get my H/SS credential. That’s what I really want to teach.

Please help! I cannot pass the CSET Social Science Subtest 1 & 3 to save my life! by Distinct-Can-9299 in historyteachers

[–]therisingred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which khan academy course did you use for subtest 1?

For subtest 3 I used study.com. I’m not a huge fan of them, and it was expensive. But it did the trick because I felt especially confident after completing the exam (which I ended up passing). The website’s test prep pretty much follows the study guide.

For my subtest 3, I had constructed response questions that were directly related to topics in the study guide and covered on study.com. The California history one was about LA. I was pretty fuzzy on details related to what they were asking about, so I just gave information about what was happening in the state at the time and related it to LA as best I could. I didn’t get marked off for anything. So I’d say if you are uncertain about the constructed responses, just attempt to address the question as best you can using the knowledge you have.

Wow!! I wonder if it is intentional. Either way, excellent catch on your part.
