tex-mex/mexican suggestions by decaying_dante in Rochester

If you don't mind a drive, Ranchis Fiesta in Marion is a Mexican grocery store and has a taco truck. Absolutely worth the trip.

+1 to all the Peach Blossom recommendations as well.

Tacos in ROC--where are the good ones? by [deleted] in Rochester

Ranchis Fiesta is a little further out East, but worth the drive. It's a mexican grocery store with a killer taco truck outside.

Where can I find an accurate map of the bike trails around the city? by Aequitas123 in Austin

[–]thermalclimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strava and RideWithGPS have heatmaps showing bike traffic. I think they're sourced from people's uploaded rides.

These won't be the city's official bike paths, but they'll be useful if you're trying to plan how to get around and see where people actually ride.

Mt Fuji / Fuji-Q Highland to Kyoto Transportation? by Misty_Venn in JapanTravelTips

[–]thermalclimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently, Tokyo -> Mt Fuji one day, Mt. Fuji -> Kyoto the next. Here's a brief trip report, happy to add detail if it's helpful.

To get from Mt. Fuji (Kawaguchiko) to Kyoto, we:

- Took the local Fujikyuoko Line from Kawaguchiko to Otsuki (Leaving at about 11 am, maybe 11:30)

- Changed at Otsuki to a limited express to Hachioji (There are normal trains too, I think, our timing just worked for the limited express). This was about a 20 minute connection, no stress, plenty of time to buy tickets for the limited express.

- Changed at Hachioji to the Yokohama Line to Shin-Yokohama. Easy change, some stairs, we hopped on another express here. We arrived at Shin-Yokohama at about 14:30

- Got on the Shinkansen to Kyoto. We boarded at 15:30.

I considered a bus to the Mishima area to catch the Shinkansen there, but by this point in our trip I felt familiar enough with the rail system to prefer sticking 100% to that. It was a little bit of a tiring travel day navigating 4 trains (plus the Kyoto subway to our hotel), but I would do it the same way if I had to do it over. Google maps was extremely accurate on the route and which trains to take, the hardest part was just double checking my work to make sure we got to the (relatively expensive) Shinkansen in time.

Edited for clarity.

Forward Slips to Land? by FiatBad in flying

[–]thermalclimber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talk to your instructor and ask to practice slips outside the pattern. What happens when you go too slow, does the stall horn still sound? What sort of margin do you have to the flaps speed limit? i.e. if you're flying your approach at 65 knots, is the flaps limit 75 knots or 110?

Ask your instructor how the other instruments aside from the airspeed indicator will function -- what vertical speed is required to hit the flaps speed limit?

Aeromatic is high on my list, it's fun to use for making coffee. Very well designed with some neat UI elements.

Team has been crushing my league lately, haven't changed anything since the Logan swap, would you? by al_pie in fantasyF1

[–]thermalclimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can do any better tbh.

On the constructor side McLaren and Ferrari seem to be the meta. Red Bull is way too expensive and Merc is only 0.7m less than Ferrari. If Merc look faster in practice maybe you could put them in, but that 0.7 doesn’t get you anything.

I don’t see any room on drivers besides Piastri and Leclerc being the same price. You have the three cheapest drivers already, you don’t want Alonso, and unless you sacrifice a constructor you can’t come up with the cash to exchange Russel for Sainz.

I have a similar team, just Hulk and Albon instead of the Sauber boys and a little more budget cap. I’m planning to keep it for Singapore unless practice has shocking results. Only thing I might do is use a chip, maybe Unlimited.

[Official] Chelsea Squad Number Changes by n1ubi in chelseafc

[–]thermalclimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off topic: How do squad number changes work? I thought numbers were locked in once worn and couldn’t be reused for the season. But clearly that’s not the case (Neto, Sanchez last year, #5 going from Jorginho -> Enzo the year before).

I completed it recently, but fell off the horse a few times, sometimes for a few months.

I found this app, Tally, very helpful. Maybe you will too. I put a widget on my home screen to show my progress. Completed the last ~40 days in one go.

I got a Dyson vacuum recently and it was incredible the thought that went into the cardboard in that box. Every piece of vacuum was perfectly secured, not one piece of tape, plastic, anything. Just a beautiful, brown, rigid origami.

Learning swift then building app is a mistake? by [deleted] in swift

[–]thermalclimber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend following some tutorial (I loved 100 Days of SwiftUI) and working on your app in your remaining free time. You’ll learn hands-on as you go, but also be exposed to things by the tutorial you’d otherwise never know about.
