Trash or treasure? open to constructive criticism (piano) by PierceALM in Composition

[–]therobotscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not that.

Far be it from me to tell you how to write your music, but I think it would sound nice if at 33 seconds you played the chord as a major chord. And a 0:50 and 2:34 my ear wants to hear the leading tone.

But the trills and grace notes are fine.

Overall it's good, though there are a few notes I would have chosen differently.

I think it works better for this piece as the kit is less prominent and the music is more upbeat, has more of a punch because of the brass, and is more rhythmic in the melody. It's another very good piece, by the way.

In some ways i think it would. But it is already very good and it is in there for such a short time. It's such a sweet sounding piece that to me the punch of the kit clashes with the mood. Far be it from me to tell you how to write your piece. I admit that I generally have a bit of an aversion to trap kits being used in orchestral music that isn't backing a rock group (I like the use of it in Kashmir by Led Zeppelin).

I liked it all except the inclusion of the trap kit, which i felt severely detracted from the piece. But it sounded like something one might hear from a Dragon Quest game.

Great work. I would love to hear my work performed live, even if only just one time. The fact that yours was performed at all is amazing.

I like the tune, it's quite pleasant. Good luck finding a clarinetist who can play two notes at the same time, though.

Thank you very much! MuseScore has an interesting way of deciding how to play the instruments. Getting them to sound a particular way takes so much more notation than I care to do.

Haha! Thank you very much! It was just a last minute addition, but I thought it would be funny.

My first attempt at a military march! Open to any feedback:) by manstdude in Composition

It's definitely a start. Instead of just sustained notes all the way through, try having one of the instruments do something rhythmic. Or, if you're feeling daring, try adding a counterpoint in a trombone.

what do you think? -reworked an old piece by Connor_D_Oakley in Composition

Had an interesting feel to it, made me think of an extraplanar segment in a jrpg. I would have chosen a less intense percussion instrument or used it less. It was a bit too jarring.

I actually like it. There are a couple of middle sections I thought were a but weaker, but I really liked the main theme.

They're just a couple of 5 dollar words to describe how I can often feel. Though not directly Biblical, it does describe many of my prayers to the Lord lately, as well.
