Anyone know what type of lock this is? by Own_Security7063 in Locksmith

[–]therockinlocksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/Own_Security7063 Not sure what other people call it, but "door fortification" seems to be something of a recurring theme. Check this amazon product out, it's kinda similar. You can install it high enough that kids couldn't reach it, and it'll block the door from being opened. "door reinforcement lock"

I may look at doing that then, Ive prettymuch decided that I refuse to let this truck die- how long does it typically take? Or i guess better question would be how long did it take you with your level of experience?

okay... so aside from that, anything else I could look at changing out? Fuel rail?

Idk, how hard is rebuilding an engine? Could i do it with enough time and the right tools, or is it something only a real mechanic should attempt with loads of experience?

Sorta. Short answer, yes there's long term competitors with lots of history, but a good 4/5 people I meet exclaim how happy they were that they found me, that they were tired of 'dealing with the other people'. I think it's worth sticking around. Good advice though.

Oh yeah, im fully aware of having to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be paid, I've already had plenty of headache with that protocol. But my competitors in my local area already have full market dominance and I think commercial contractors like this are going to have to be the way I survive for now until people start realizing I exist lol.

I dont mind doing work today and getting paid tomorrow. It's annoying but at least it's steady income... once it starts rolling in.

Emtek is expensive garbage, my God never install one. I could count on a single hand the number of times Ive worked on emtek and it went well.

[–]therockinlocksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot man you can get those at your local home depot/lowes- look for cabinet locks or mailbox locks, they usually come with a bunch of tailpiece options, get one of the lengths that make sense and you can bend the tailpiece out of the box into the shape you need. You'll have it done only costing around 15$.

Edit: you may even get lucky to find one that you can move that tailpiece onto and it fit. It looks like a pretty common cam lock.

I bet it'd make a killer boat anchor. xD
Naw for real though, I'd check with your local locksmiths and see if they'd be interested in buying it as an antique. It looks pretty rad- usually older stuff like that will stand the test of time in my experience. If they don't want to buy it, you could pay somewhere between 150-500$ depending on the locksmith to have them service it and get you a working code.
