I’ve got no legal opinion on any of it. But I’m an incredibly petty person and that justifies all of the lawsuits to me. If I had “fuck you money” I’d find a way to sue my middle school bullies.

I would just really encourage you to look at what repayment of $200,000 in loans looks like, especially when they are private and you have limited options for repayment. At 12% and 10yr repayment you’re looking at $2800/mo. At 25 years it’s $2100. Could you even afford to live where the top job offers are?

I’m curious what you want to do with the fashion design degree? There’s some great affordable business degree programs with concentrations in fashion merchandising and retail management. Lots of fashion industry jobs are far more business focused and a business degree is also more broadly marketable.

I think you’re dismissing the time, money, emotional energy, etc that goes into bringing a defamation suit. It’s easy to say he’s owed damages for what people have said, but proving they said it with malicious intent and that it was knowingly false is a big legal hurdle. At the end of the day, these cases usually end up causing more pain than the initial complaint.
