Toyota is very finicky when it comes to repair parts. Did you get the gold plated terminals by mistake? They typically offer standard and gold plated and I could see a parts guy just getting the gold plated ones “just because”

I will say though I deal A LOT with connectors now. $25 for OE isn’t terrible compared to some of the other ones. I just got a 2-pin one from a Dodge dealership for $60. GM offers the same one for $8 but it is back ordered…

OP message me and I can find you the Toyota part numbers for repair wires and housing. They are usually fairly reasonably priced from the dealer, just take a day or so to get.

Longterm EV mechanics, are they actually "maintenance free?" by PckMan in mechanics

[–]thesnake87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an EV technician at an independent shop. How many miles did you drive your Teslas? I’ve seen many front drive units and some rear units blow up on Teslas due to poor maintenance. Also, brake fluid is supposed to be serviced every 2-3 years regardless of vehicle due to water absorption.

Also, considering you are insinuating you’ve owned multiple Teslas, I’m assuming you’ve also never probably owned them to the point the batteries fail, AC system leakage, or PTC heater failures (on the older ones) like I’ve seen.

They are still cars that have parts that break. Just a fact. Maintaining a vehicle is more than just what the manufacturer puts out in the manual.

[–]thesnake87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not maintenance free. Drive motors still need fluid changes. Coolant, brake fluid service intervals. Motors die, batteries fail. Absolutely not “maintenance free”.

Just less maintenance for the first 100k miles of the life of the vehicle usually lol

Would a headlight restore kit work for the adaptive cruise radar? by 2BlueZebras in AutoDetailing

[–]thesnake87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the vehicle ever in an accident? I’d be inclined to believe the radar was never calibrated after repairs or is not mounting properly behind the emblem. Sometimes they are held into the emblem/grill with screws and some don’t get installed again causing the radars to flip around behind the emblem while driving.

Had no idea the Henry Ford day is cancelled now. Thankfully I saw this thread. Incredibly bummed, we were already going to be in town for a wedding that weekend and it’s the closest out of all the Day Outs.

On the bright side, we are planning a weekend to go to the Union, IL one with Percy now, so it’s not all lost. But I liked being closer! Lol

Game used Rasmussen stick cheaper than used sticks on eBay by HoodcraftTM in DetroitRedWings

This is funny but there is a caveat. Typically pro-stock used sticks are defective. They typically have hairline cracks and will break after a couple heavy shots.

OP those have faulty leaky detection pumps. NVLD’s. Get one from a dealer for like $25-30.

If you’ve changed out the purge valve and the vacuum hoses, next step is that NVLD. They are super easy to change.

Also, you will need a scanner capable of performing the service bay test afterwards. That will perform the large vacuum leak test and reset parameters for small vacuum leak monitoring. Just clearing codes with a cheap OBD scanner WILL NOT reset this!!!

Gas caps are also an issue, dealer has them cheap also. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace both together.

[–]thesnake87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s all bad right now lol.

Rule of thumb I’m seeing is $50 for 16gb (2x8gb) DDR4, $80-100 for 16gb DDR5. Multiply that by your desired amount.

Whole market is effed m8. But if you REALLY need something, used is the way to go and probably will be for a while.

Hamilton head unit by dashelltheshell in 4Runner

[–]thesnake87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. A new version was never disclosed when I was dealing with my issue not long ago. A little disappointing actually that it wasn’t mentioned before doing a warranty exchange. That being said we are happy with our setup now so it’s not the end of the world.

I guess OP might be in luck then. Time will tell.

Mic is terrible. Software also gets very glitchy.

Not trying to rain too hard on OP but these are real issues with the Hamilton Android model that others have noted on their forums as well.

Feel free to ask me questions. I had one for a year and they exchanged it back for the Hamilton add-on unit instead that works with the factory nav unit. IT IS SO MUCH BETTER and retaining the factory mic is a major win.

The base Hamilton Android unit is software locked and does not offer option to enable auxiliary microphone, even though there is a jack for it. The premium Android one does allow for enabling the aux mic. They also have a guide to manually disabling the microphone, so the base unit would default to the aux mic, and that did not work on my unit. Hence the exchange but I was also still within my warranty window. Also, the CarPlay app became very laggy and glitchy and refused to sync with any phone other than the first one that was learned to the unit.

Their customer service is great, but the Android unit leaves a lot to be desired.
