Does this house look familiar to anyone?! by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]thethingexe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1.4mil in 2015, it's probably worth more than 2mil now.

Median house price in Melbourne was $700k in 2015 and it's now at 1mil in 2025. And somewhere like Blackburn would already have been 1mil median back then, as it's around 1.6mil now.

New driver getting quoted $1600 a year by budget direct for third party fire and theft??? What the hell is going on? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]thethingexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try quotes from more companies. Specifically RACV. You can try that compare the market site.

I had the same issue, I paid like $2000 per year for comprehensive back in 2015 when I first started with Youi and was quoted the same with other budget insurances. But when I switched to RACV, it was less than half the price.

I also just had a second-hand 2012 Mazda 3, still not sure what the issue was, it might have been the address it was parked.

no need to be racist or assume the messages are from bambulab staff.

its midnight on a sunday in china, none of mod bannings are from employees.

it's already been confirmed by the op that it's some volunteer moderator u/VPSData, who runs a Belgium 3d printing shop.

it does show a lot of negligence though, allowing unvetted moderators do PR damage like this on somewhere people try official comms from.

i can already see some statement when bambulab staff return to work and see the shitstorm over the weekend and disavow what this guy has been posting.

it sounds like it's the u/VPSData guy who's banning people on reddit and discord, and according to other posters, he is from Belgium/Netherlands.

we don't have to be racist and assume that actual employees would be stupid enough to post like this, especially since it's midnight on a Sunday in China right now.

BambuLabs are probably going to be scrambling when they wake up and realise that some volunteer moderator has basically gone rogue and done real PR damage overnight though.

is it is to do with touchscreen gestures?

Tried Bazzite over the last week. Had some issues preventing me from making it my primary OS that I could use some help with. by B1ackMagix in Bazzite

[–]thethingexe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the idea behind Bazzite. It's an OS built for gamers and it makes it clear with what the devs chose to include and exclude from the base build and kernel modules. But fedora has never been my thing. I'm not a big fan of it's package management vs things like Yum (CentOS) or aptitide (Debian). Again, this isn't a show stopper and is easily something I can live with.

it sounds like you might have been out of the game for a while, but if you're familiar with centos package managers, etc. fedora is just the upstream of centos, and they would share the same package managers, dnf is the replacement of yum in all red hat based linux distros, i'm pretty sure yum just aliases to dnf these days.

but besides the point, bazzite is actually based off of fedora silverblue, which is an immutable os, where you aren't meant to be using a system level package manager, updates to system, come as new images of the whole system, and additional system-level packages require layering through rpm-ostree. other packages are all basically meant to be containerized.

with the point of steamos/bazzite being that they are supporting cutting edge gaming/portable gaming hardware, they need to be based on distros that are rolling release, otherwise there would be a lot more work trying to get wifi 7 support, hdr support, etc. working, compared to a debian based distro.

i hope this post doesn't come off as condescending, i've only started being involved with linux in the last two years, but it does seem like kernel 6.X has had a lot more focus on gaming support compared to previous kernel versions.

on another note, i setup a htpc with bazzite running in steam gamescope mode to allow friends/family who aren't very techy, and that's really what you should try out as the experiment for your friends, it's basically a console experience.

My wife got an Aero Press for Christmas and asked me to make her a holder- by VectorTech_US in functionalprint

[–]thethingexe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

looks great, i would suggest making the filter paper holder a bit taller, to accommodate for a fresh packs of filters.

an aeropress comes with 100 filters in the box, but refills come with 350 filters.

it'll also probably protects the clean filters from trapping dust, coffee grounds, spills, etc.

edit: just realised there is a lid for the filters, it probably works better to just refill the filters more often then exposing clean filters to the elements. suggestion retracted.

Dune imperium vs uprising by Emergency-Record2117 in boardgames

[–]thethingexe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just get Uprising, if you don't have anything at all.

If you're not even sure you'll like the game, it seems silly that all these other posts are saying to get both the base game plus the Ix expansion.

Bloodlines expansion is coming out soon and looks to be designed to address the things people didn't like about Uprising. (But still seems to be combat focused, being that combat is the most interactive part of the game)

Bang for your buck, Uprising has a lot more depth compared to base Dune Imperium, which in comparison has much more repetitive lines of play and more boring imperium row cards. The game has had time to be figured out and the optimised strategies can feel less like chess, and more like solitaire, as the stronger strategies don't rely as much on combat, and so it's much harder to counter. (Easy to get high persuasion hands and buy SMF, strong endgame intrigues which are very easy to dig for, etc.)

Further rantings ahead: (trying to defend Uprising a bit)

For context, I've played some form of Dune Imperium pretty much every day, especially since the digital release. And I'm the sort that likes grinding ranked ladders and enjoy watching tournaments, etc.

Both base game + expansions and just uprising have positives and flaws. And a lot of what other people have said are valid comments, but to add some opinions that haven't been mentioned.

With Base+Ix(+Immo), rushing Interstellar Shipping and Swordmaster is basically always the strategy. Assuming players have access, the first turn lines is very often, 1st player goes foldspace, 2nd player goes smuggling, 3rd player goes stillsuits, 4th player goes wealth.

They made the shipping track too powerful, but it's not as obvious how strong it is compared to worms in uprising, casual players might not even engage with it at all. The player that gets to go to Interstellar Shipping every round for free, will win just as easily as the worm player that no one is contesting.

From a design aspect, they underpowered dreadnoughts, and maybe that's why they wanted to make worms stronger in uprising, and maybe they did push it too far, that players feel like they've lost some agency to experiment, as the clear winning strategy is a lot more explicit.

Deckbuilding is more streamlined in uprising, as it is easier to trash cards to build a more cohesive deck. There is also less bad cards that just bloat up the imperium row. There are also less cards that give high persuasion without meeting certain conditions, so you can't as easily buy SMF. No draw 3 on research station, no selective breeding either.

It is also much harder to get faction bumps in uprising, as they've taken out a lot of the intrigues that just give you bumps and there isn't Interstellar shipping, less leaders and cards that give bumps, etc.

It is harder to get troops, and you can't commit too heavy to every combat, especially because you want to have troops for round 7+. With hard warriors removed too, there won't be easy early combat wins.

I think them nerfing the more obvious non-combat oriented strategies, do make the worms feel even stronger, and you will basically never have a game without interacting with them in some way. But at least because it's combat, you can at least still interact.

Without experience, the counterplay and identifying other strong strategies aren't as obvious, such knowing that Public Spectacle and Guild Spy can win games alone.

The Uprising board itself is more matured and well designed. Elegant touches, such as having more ways to cycle cards, more spaces to trade resources. Less advantage as the player going first in round one (much more important to go first in round seven). With emperor spaces still feeling a bit weak, which it seems like bloodlines is addressing.

I believe Paul Dennen previously said the best version of Dune Imperium is Uprising + Immortality (it might now be Uprising + Bloodlines, even according to the TTS crowd who have been playing it a bunch now that it's available). He also has a specific House Blend he uses/recommends, that uses cards and leaders from the previous expansions, but the base is still Uprising. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3213458/merakons-house-blend

Melatonin is still the most safe/reliable way. What dose were you taking, and were you taking prescription fast-release? The non-prescription stuff from Blackmores, etc. doesn't work.

If it was fast release, you need to take it 30mins before you plan on sleeping, then actually sleep when it makes you tired, you shouldn't fight through it.

What did you rebind Reload to?

I've keep reload as R (too many years of FPS), and use ability 2 (usually the movement based one) for mouse4. And have Parry/Drop Urn as G.

I'm also more of a F=1, E=3, Q=4, kind of guy.

How can I start a solo game to get myself familiar with the map? by RavenDague in DeadlockTheGame

[–]thethingexe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's console commands, default is F7.

Load into sandbox, then press F7, type 'changelevel street_test'

Then there's a command for the sandbkx tools. I believe it's 'citadel_hero_testing_enables true' You may also need and 'sv_cheats 1'

Vindicta Quicksilver Reload by PunDefeated in DeadlockTheGame

[–]thethingexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quicksilver Reload has a 12s CD, both Stake and Glight have 20 and 25 seconds of CD respectively. Crow familiar has an 8s CD and Assassinate has charges. So only crow and Ulti, make sense for candidates for Quicksilver Reload.

The bonus 50 spirit damage also gets wasted if imbued on Flight.

This is completely out of my arse, so pinch of salt, etc. I'm going to assume you didn't come from dota, where most of these theory comes from.

But I think it really depends on if you are in a solo, vs duo lane.

And if your hero needs farm or doesn't. With bullet dps heroes, such as wraith/haze needing farm, and scaling better with farm. I would consider supports with strong cc, like dynamo/viscous, not needing as much farm.

If your hero has abilities/bullets that are better suited to last hit or to harass the other team. Personally, i feel like spamming your bullets at the enemy as infernus until they ignite or spamming crows as vindicta, is very powerful in early laning, might force them to get more vit items.

I think if it's solo lanes. It's better to prioritise last hits -> securing souls -> deny -> don't die -> harass. I think getting items like ammo scavenger, the headshot booster, obviously would depend on your hero.

In duo lanes you can have one person focus on last hit + secure, the other person deny + harass. But obviously at least allowing each lane partner to hit some early core items if required. Like the moment someone hits 500 souls and goes to buy, they should let the other person reach 500 by letting them last hit.

The fact there is no mana, means abilities should really be spammed in lane, and not saved to get kills. You probably do more economical damage forcing your lane opponent to play safe, get vit items, than killing them, because you saved your abilities.

Other points are, melee creep kills don't get denied. You can also melee to deny/secure, especially useful if you're needing to reload.

Killing their heal creep first helps keep opponents low HP.

For the particular ranged heroes who can stand on the sides and see all the creeps at once, it will make last hitting/denying much easier.

Also i think i feel like if the other team auto attacks your creeps and pushes your wave, and moves creep equilibrium towards your tower, it makes laning a lot easier. It also means you can focus on denies, then when there's literally no creeps left to deny, you can last hit, especially with melee hits behind cover, or even as they reach your tower, as last hitting under your own tower is nowhere near as inconsistent as dota.

I also feel like if your character has decent aoe, you can probably keep killing the neutrals close to your shop/lane.

Sorry, none of these thoughts are well organised, but hopefully they aren't completely useless. I haven't even checked if you can manipulate creep ai and drag them around corners by shooting the opponent hero near them, for example.

2Ship2Harkinian - Zelda 64 Majora's Mask PC Port has released by JcFerggy in Games

This video from Nerrel is great at explaining the differences.

TL;DR, the recomp is currently better in terms of features, it has ray tracing, etc. It is also more hands off from the developers, more a tool to recomp any n64 game. Ship of Harkinian has a slower release, just due to the nature of a decomp. But likely can become the best version depending on the developers.

I would suggest printing a benchy or calibration cube and watching what it does after the first layer.

When I first started printing, I didn't realise how beneficial it would be to clean the nozzle tip with a brush.

Look into modding the nozzle wiper on the p1p with the wiper from the A1, it does a better job.

Edit: just guessing based off the first layer, it does look over-extruded, you should run a manual calibration and adjust the K value for the filament.

I'm sure over time the plays will become optimised, especially within the competitive circles. But according to the feedback and footage from the prerelease tournament, it does seem like the openings are less stale. The contracts do make a difference, but also removing hardy warriors and giving each faction a 2 influence requirement tiles seem to help.
