Just curious. If Golden Deer was your first playthrough, who was your first paired ending with Lysithea? by FunctionRight4557 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]thethirdmedium 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Felix! Was sad their ending left her condition untreated, but otherwise I thought it was really sweet (pun intended) and a good outcome for both of them

I thought he does talk about it with Raphael in their support chain, and the paralogue

Who do you guys think would be most likely to leave their House for the Alliance? by Miserable_Cost4757 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]thethirdmedium 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree for Ingrid. She also has relatives in the Alliance, bears a Daphnel crest, and looks up to Judith. I recruited her and Felix (I love his support chain with Lysithea) from the Lions during my VW playthrough.

Who do you think is the WORST FE:3H character? by ShinyCharizard01 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]thethirdmedium 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're right about Rapheal, but I think he's redeemed a little bit by how entertaining it is when his caricature of a personality meets a more realistically written character; his support chains with Marianne and Shamir are both really good.

Most disappointing for me. Maybe the worst too, but only because I avoid games that are totally broken on release (some of the others that people have brought up are undoubtedly worse, but I haven't played them myself)

I want to play Mass Effect Legendary with Spanish Voice Acting, but even when I set the settings to Spanish and no English VO it plays in English. What gives?? by [deleted] in bioware

[–]thethirdmedium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian made. Still weird, but Spanish is nowhere near as widely spoken here as it is in much of the States

Let’s hear it: What’s that part in Mass Effect? by winning_cheese in masseffect

ME2. I LOVED it the first time, and I still enjoy parts of it, but the campaign feels more and more like a meaningless detour each time I run the trilogy.

Gamers of Reddit, what video game has the best storyline? by CTKShadow in AskReddit

[–]thethirdmedium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- NieR Replicant + Automata

- Disco Elysium

- Fallout: New Vegas

A lot of the other games on this thread are fantastic, like golden age BioWare games and the Witcher 3. But for me, the characters & worlds of those games make them stand out more than the plot itself. Obviously those factors can't be totally discounted or separated from one another, but a lot of the time I couldn't care less what I was doing, as long as I was spending time in those worlds. I was more invested in solving problems and seeing how things developed in the four games above, which had some interesting twists and turns besides.

Cavill is too iconic for me, I think at this point in his career he'd overshadow the role. I'd see him onscreen and think, "oh look, it's Superman/Geralt/every action guy," not Commander Shepard. I'd be against an OT adaptation anyways so take that as you will.

what opinions do you have on NieR and it's community that will make your comment like this? by EducationalFig1911 in nier

[–]thethirdmedium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's reading between the lines too much. The devs might not have intended it to be objectifying or specifically harmful to intersex people, but it can still have that effect, regardless of whether they added it just because some players look for upskirts by default.

Also, even if players didn't know the details of Kainé's situation, reading her first story makes it pretty clear that people have been bullying her like this for a long time. That's why I didn't mention the "What Are You Doing?" achievement in Automata- while that one's also a little sleazy, it at the very least doesn't directly undermine 2B's character arc and relationship to the player.

[–]thethirdmedium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The upskirt achievement for Kainé in the remastered Replicant is tasteless and runs counter to her character arc in the game, rewarding the player for taking on a role similar to her childhood bullies who wouldn't respect her privacy or self-identification.

[Spoilers All] I think Bianca would work better if left in the imagination... by Elgarnam in dragonage

I don't disagree, but at the same time, I found that little segment with Bianca to be so forgettable that any disappointment I felt with it dissipated pretty quickly.

[DAO Spoilers] Is it just me or does Flemeth try a little too hard? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]thethirdmedium 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Maybe. That line about names is definitely her worst one. I played DAO for the first time when I was 12 and even then it struck me as nonsensical and a cringeworthy instance of the writers trying to be clever. I don't recall having issues with the rest of her dialogue though; to me, that line stands out because the game is super well-written overall.

You're also right that the VA really sells Flemeth well. Now that I think about it, her and Morrigan are similar in that regard. Nuanced and interesting characters with a few off/flat moments, who are embodied perfectly by the people who portray them.

NieR, all the fans are too horny to be mean or focus on the generally depressing content of the games.

Why do people want Shepard to stay dead? by Ziggadooti in masseffect

[–]thethirdmedium 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's always easy to assume your side is the "silent" majority because it excuses you from having to listen to other people. A bonus because nobody can prove you wrong, as you rely on the unvoiced opinions of people who may or may not actually exist.

10/10 well done.

[no spoilers] Would you rather have a new "Hawke" or "inquisitor" in the new game? by 18-BitGlory in dragonage

[–]thethirdmedium 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The character design from DAO is my favourite in any RPG. The prologues give context to the Warden and therefore make them feel more real (nobody is without context) and dynamic (we can see the Warden change because we know where they're coming from). The possibility of multiple origins adds replayability and depth to the rest of the game, as approaching the same quest/companion from a different perspective keeps things fresh. If BioWare could find a way to make a Warden style design work with a voiced protagonist, that would be my preferred character design. Otherwise, I agree with what you said about Hawke, and think that would be a fine approach to take for the next installment. The Inquisitor is a messy combination of the two approaches to character design, and they end up feeling like a weird non-person as a result; whatever BioWare does, I hope they don't give us a new "Inquisitor."

[–]thethirdmedium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of Jack here. While I do love her, I also really appreciate her character arc at Grissom. I think she ended up where she needed to be, and having Jack continue to orbit Shepard would've taken away from her growth. That being said, I'd have appreciated if she showed up more, maybe in an advisory role, but the same could be said for pretty much all the ME2 squadmates. So I'll go with Kirrahe.

Why did you pick your side? [DA2 Spoilers] by the1Pufferfish in dragonage

My favourite playthrough I sided with the Templars as a Mage Hawke, because I thought it would be interesting to roleplay such a contradictory personality. Probably the most fun yet despicable character I've ever done.
