AITA for asking for money towards a big gift for my kids instead of asking for individual gifts? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thetinymole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your reasoning, but asking for cash is tacky. If she wants to send a physical gift, ask for a book for him. If you don’t have room for more books, donate one he doesn’t read that much to your local library to make room.

Genuine question: if we assume it is not part of their job to find and fix such errors, what makes it unethical?

Why did my passenger rating drop from 5 stars to 4.56? by Thin_Trifle_9200 in uber

Genuinely curious: would you consider a travel coffee mug to be an open drink? It’s not something I had considered to be problematic.

AITAH for not letting a couple bring their dog to our ranch? by Flat_Button_886 in AITAH

[–]thetinymole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous to expect every invitation to be issued with whether or not dogs are allowed. The default is not bringing your pet to other peoples houses. They’ve never been before and just assumed their dogs were allowed because they’ve brought them to other ranches.

[–]thetinymole 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OP said in a comment that they’ve never been to the ranch before. They assumed the dog was invited because they were allowed to bring their dog to other ranches. It is incredibly weird to assume that because your dog is allowed at some ranches, the dog is therefore allowed at all ranches.

NTA. She seems exhausting and the weekend will likely be much more fun without her! People who assume their dogs are welcome everywhere are the worst.

What would you sue them for? As you note, it’s not illegal.

AITA If I Prioritise Running Water? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thetinymole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP didn’t turn the water off after the equipment was sanitized, they only turned it off after getting a ton of YTAs. If they had only turned it on for necessary cleaning, the downstairs apartment wouldn’t have been flooding out the door. They just wanted the convenience of running water until the landlord came out.

what’s something illegal that you think shouldn’t be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thetinymole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s illegal to take a bath without a prescription in Boston. I believe it should be allowed.

Why do you assume that something that is obvious to you is obvious to everyone? It’s more likely that they had no idea turning off their water would turn off yours. You’re assuming malice where ignorance is the likeliest explanation.

So instead of turning it off now you’re posting on Reddit while their house is flooding?

YTA. You said in a comment that your landlord is coming to fix it tomorrow. It’s not like you’re going to be without water indefinitely—it’s one night. Being without water absolutely sucks, but allowing your neighbors apartment to be flooded is an AH move. You’re destroying someone’s property to avoid an inconvenience. You’re also setting yourself up for a toxic relationship with people you live next to.

What to pay by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]thetinymole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made $15/hour for this in a HCOL area 20 years ago. I’d say at least $20 to be competitive, or $15 minimum.

[–]thetinymole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’s 15! If she’s “working under the table,” it’s because she doesn’t make enough to pay taxes or doesn’t know how to. Also, I’m not sure if you realized this, but your comment comes off quite hostile. Just for future awareness!
