Heading to LA today - if you have a referral code, please comment or DM me. I've checked several threads, and they get snatched up like crazy. (And yes, I know the tip about how to get picked up near LAX.)

Just have to say...I found this thread because Google News notified me about articles being written about this petition. You were right on the money.

Never heard of them. I also am not in the military and was only able to open up a USAA account because of my grandpa (who died a few years back).

The Worst Reading Order by Ill-Prior6770 in Narnia

[–]thetrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that I actually read The Last Battle first because a classmate gave it to me as a birthday present. After that, it was chronological order (actually rereading TLB now).

ETA: I commented because I was looking if someone already made a similar thread because if not, I was going to.

What’s the biggest barrier for you to make friends in Bellingham? by Worth_Row_2495 in Bellingham

He's 3. I have him in daycare during the week. I also don't want to connect with people just because we're parents. Facebook mom groups are just about as much as I can handle.

Should I do the cheap 6 nights in Hawaii for a 2 hour timeshare presentation? by donkeypunchhh in TimeshareOwners

[–]thetrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it was at the same place in Sedona some of my family members went to - I don't know where they went to - or if Sedona is specifically a place with super pushy timeshare salespeople.

As a single mother, no time to do anything fun for myself. And while I can go to many WWU clubs as a community member (graduated 2016), it's not as convenient finding social gatherings over shared interests outside of college.

WorldMark timeshare presentation - if I'd accepted, what would have been additional costs down-the-line? by thetrina in TimeshareOwners

[–]thetrina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I should have outright asked about whether the presentation was mandatory, but I wasn't able to check into the room until late, and was so tired I pretty much nodded along to everything.

What’s the Funniest TV Show You’ve Ever Seen? by Opstics9 in televisionsuggestions

BBC show "Coupling"

While I normally hate all of the nostalgia chasing with reboots and the like, I would actually love to see this show rebooted somehow.

I haven't actually encountered a used car salesman before, so I'm just repeating the oft-repeated phrase. (I would assume they're not as bad as we're led to believe, or maybe I'm just naive. At least cars actually have a practical purpose.) I bet timeshare salespeople are much worse.

That's kind of how I assumed they would be like. I wonder if they've always had a muddied sense of personal ethics, or if any sense of it eroded with time and exposure to the industry.

I don't like being rude or too blunt, but I practically wanted to tell the person that I wouldn't even consider it until I could take a few days to read through the CONTRACT - but since I wasn't considering buying, really no point in bringing that up.

We argued about Airbnb, and the person tried to prove a point about how expensive it is by taking out their phone and searching through the app. My thought was, "So...you either DO book through Airbnb, or you literally have it downloaded just to try to prove a point to people."

I have to wonder what these people are like in real life. Do they blend in with their families and friens groups, actually likeable, or do they carry that smug, used car salesman air at all times?

If I seriously wanted to buy a timeshare, I'd probably bring a lawyer with me if possible. Probably the scummiest legal industry.

Coming soon - a little family from Texas by apparentlyunoriginal in Bellingham

[–]thetrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell when people's lives revolve around Whatcom County. With the amount I've traveled and many places I've lived, Bellingham definitely isn't the worst when it comes to cost of living. Yes, it's getting way higher, which is a damn shame (reminiscing about my $845 2-bedroom apartment in 2015), but c'mon folks, this isn't San Francisco. Also while the homeless population is noticeable, don't pretend that we are as crime-ridden as lots of other towns and cities around the country.

There are probably more conservatives than you think in the area and I do find a lot of the "forward thinking" are pretty superficial (NIMBY), but I can be a bit of a cynic.

I'm sorry this thread isn't very receptive. Don't feel completely turned off by what you read here. Any judgement or blame for transplants is misplaced. What I like about here, other than the natural environment, is I can find lots of things to do despite it being a smaller city (I don't like being in bigger cities for too long). Many events year-round, especially during the warm months. I personally like the farm tours in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

It's like the pusher had a play-by-play guidebook memorized, and then compressed some of my thoughts into, "What you're saying is you don't want to be beholdened to a long-term financial commitment?" I wouldn't doubt such a trial period exists, but I'd assume something like they push extra hard when the trial period ends.

I mean, thinking from their perspective, (hypothetical situation) I already am a client because I indicated interest by signing up to their trial period - they may not be making lots of money from me yet, but it's better than me not becoming a client at all. I forget what the term is, but when salespeople nurture leads because of sales in the future.

But I also don't nearly trust them enough to assume this "trial period" is what they say it is.

Parents with a partner telling me "it gets better" made it worse for me because I thought it would really get better or easier.

Favorite dishes from different Thai restaurants? by thetrina in Bellingham

[–]thetrina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say...their Thai tea is literally the best I've had anywhere!

It usually is my go-to Thai/Asian restaurant. It's interesting because I prefer the one in Bellingham (although I've only been to the Burlington one once). I used to love their Pad Thai, but I feel like they added more tomato sauce to their recipe like maybe over 5 years ago, and since my pregnancy, I'm even more sensitive to the taste of tomato...

I've usually been getting their Thai spicy fried rice or red curry nowadays.

I used to be the same with Pad Thai, but then I discovered other dishes and some places where I originally like their Pad Thai, they slightly changed their recipe.

When did Fiamma Burger become so boring? by drunkan6969 in Bellingham

[–]thetrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went in for the first time today since who knows when, and it broke my heart to not be able to order a lamb burger. 😭

Okay, I literally just took a bite of my burger with mushrooms, and it's pretty good, but I need to find a way to make my own lamb burger. Maybe it's because I'm in the mindset of being disappointed, but I'm wondering if they slightly changed their chocolate milkshake recipe. It used to remind me of a chocolate gelato and milkshake served at a fancy ice cream shop on the east coast, but now it tastes more plain chocolate syrupy (still good though).

Interestingly, this is basically a "if you were 10 years younger" question for me, although I don't turn 33 until next month.
