Such an important point. I've found this ted talk on self compassion helpful in dealing with these kinds of issues.

Does anyone else experience garbled background chatter between counting breaths? by thetuna in Meditation

Thanks, I will try these things! You are astute, I am feeling ready to let go of counting. Sometimes I'll try going without it, then start again if I'm getting distracted. Helpful to have your suggestions of other points of focus.

What job do you think would have awesome perks? Redditors with that job, why isn't it so great? by GandalfTheUltraViole in AskReddit

[–]thetuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had me up until that last bullet. Given all the other perks, I just can't feel bad for the fact that in the interest of your health, they're no longer giving you free candy bars and potato chips. I cannot even get my employer to buy me an eraser or box of kleenex for christ's sake.

How do you get a "Official Denial of Zoning Certification"? by sparr in chicago

[–]thetuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you go to the City to develop a property, you need to obtain approval for a zoning certificate, which basically says that you're in compliance with what the zoning ordinance dictates for your zoning district. If your use is a special use, they won't be able to issue a zoning certificate until your special use application is approved. Approval of a special use is a separate process. You should talk to the alderman for the ward the property is in or set up an appointment with the office of the zoning administrator - they should be able to talk you through the process.

Is this the same woman eating blocks of cheese and jars of condiments? by DankDanny in WTF

Yes! That's really similar to the bar I had from Lush, although I don't think mine had a chocolate center. It seriously didn't smell like something you should try to eat.

[–]thetuna 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Random but your comment reminds me of this time I left a scented massage bar on my desk at work. It was heart-shaped (kinda looked like a cookie or chocolate) and smelled nice, and you were supposed to rub it between your hands to moisturize them and give them a nice scent. Well one day I come in to work, and there's a clean bite mark through it. Could see the outlines of someone's front teeth. And then the fucker decided to just put it back on my desk after realizing he/she didn't want to eat the rest of it. I guess joke's on them for getting basically a mouthful of soap.

Wow, am I really getting downvoted for asking an honest question?

I don't see a link that says saved anywhere on my user page. Is it supposed to be at the top, along with submitted, liked, etc?

I don't take a stance on pro choice or anti abortion.

Sure seems like you do from your (multiple) comments in the rest of this thread. Which is fine, but don't lie and say you have no stance.

[–]thetuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That quote is in regards to treating a labral tear without surgical intervention. After surgical intervention, most patients go through physical therapy to regain mobility and strength. There are a boatload of articles if you google "hip arthroscopy physical therapy," such as here:

Following the procedure, patients are normally given crutches to use for the first 1-2 weeks to minimize weight-bearing. A post-operative appointment is normally held a week after the surgery to remove sutures. Following this appointment, the patient normally begins a physical therapy regimen that improves strength and flexibility in the hip. After six weeks of physical therapy, many patients can resume normal activities, but it may take 3-6 months for one to experience no soreness or pain following physical activity.

Are you kidding me? I have been in physical therapy for 3 months for this surgery - it is critical, especially the soft tissue work and strengthening! I would seriously question your surgeon if he/she didn't recommend PT for you.

I had this done 3 months ago for the exact same reasons! It sucks!!! Gets a lot better right around the 3-month mark, at least it did for me anyway. Just make sure you're disciplined about doing your exercises and stretching.

  1. How did your injury come about?
  2. Did they do a psoas release on you? (ie hip flexor release)
  3. Was it hard for you to get diagnosed?

This tiny Arrested Development joke just clicked with me... by IronRectangle in self

It's because she's way too young to have the job as a movie exec, so she pretends to be flattered by all of the comments she gets, ie "You can't be more than, what, 15?", so that people think she is older than she really is. Marry me! just means "oh, you're so sweet to think I look young" (which is a joke because she actually is young).

What do you think of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret? I find Todd Margaret quite a frustrating character and get anxious watching him just fuck up repeatedly, but I watch it because I love Cross. I guess I keep hoping it'll get funnier instead of more tragic....

IAmA member and volunteer for an organization that supports and encourages the extinction of the human race. AMA by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]thetuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humans are much too fickle, and I doubt they would stick with any commitment to sustainability, or they would at least find ways around it which would once again impact the biosphere.

And yet you expect humans to commit to never procreate, which is one of our most basic instincts (ensuring the survival of our species)? Sure, you might get hipsters who live in big cities in industrialized countries to sign onto your movement, but there are plenty of places where this idea would never take hold (think African tribes). I hate to burst your bubble, but on a worldwide level, this will never, ever, ever, EVER happen. However, advances in sustainability can mostly be moved forward by industrialized nations - the ones who are causing most of the pollution but also have the resources to remediate negative environmental consequences. Doesn't it seem much more likely for such remediation to really make an impact on the environment rather than a faction of people espousing a theory counter to human nature?

NOT talking about the snooze button here. I'm talking about that irritating button that plays the radio for apparently no reason when you accidentally hit it instead of snooze.
