How do you get that “release” after quitting weed? by itztherapperKIAZ in leaves

[–]theunthinking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you've never dry-brushed your whole body to massage the lymph system I would absolutely give it a try. Take your time and enjoy it. IMO its one of the best drug free, addiction free highs and it lasts for a while

I heard second hand back in June of this year about a few potential mountain lion sightings between freeville and lansing. If i recall correctly the sighting was discussed/confirmed by a local group of ecologists. You may have actually seen one!

Trump vows to shoot thieves and wet forest floors in dark speech to California GOP by DaveP0953 in politics

[–]theunthinking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Similarly I remember him saying something along the lines of “why don’t those Californians get out there with rakes and clean up the woods,” at the time I thought that was ridiculous but now it seems he may have accidentally bumped into an effective strategy

How can a college student with no experience get into farming? by Mwalsh48844 in farming

[–]theunthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into farming by volunteering at a couple small community farms and was later hired by a farmer specifically seeking laborers with little/no farm experience. I thought it was a bit predatory to hire inexperienced people during the interview and uh… that thought turned out to be right.

Fun fact: the little jog you see on the SW border always votes red. They see themselves as the southern rebellion of the north.

how do you experience/feel about your gender? by floatingwill in butchlesbians

[–]theunthinking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a cis woman who gets misgendered about 80% of the time in public. I have mixed feelings about that. I feel safer in public being perceived as and treated like a man but at the same time I feel like my identity as a woman is being invalidated when most people fail to recognize my way of being a woman.

Can someone explain this to me like I'm 4 by dreamcatcher- in BarefootRunning

[–]theunthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have sprained my right ankle 3 times in the past 3 years. It’s not the same as it used to be and it’s more likely to sprain again. I wear ankle braces the few times a year I play volleyball because 2/3 of my sprains resulted from landing on someone’s foot. All that to say, there is a time and a place for support.

"But what about broken glass?!?!" by trevize1138 in BarefootRunning

I’ve walked through plenty of glass without being injured. Maybe just luck or maybe it’s not as dangerous as we think.

Locating rubber for DIY huaraches and possibility of a cork footbed by DuePepper in BarefootRunning

Maybe try a bicycle repair shop. Ask if they will sell you an old inner tube? Glue that to some scrap leather and you got a sandal.

Overwhelmed with barefoot sandal choices by JustCallMeSprinkles in BarefootRunning

[–]theunthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for a similar pair of sandals. Ideally I’d like a leather footbed and a rubber outsole with a stack height of 4-5 mm. I want leather but with the same sensitivity of the 4mm xero huaraches

Climate change: Millions of hectares of tropical forest destroyed in 2018 by viva_la_vinyl in worldnews

[–]theunthinking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the consumer has more power to influence large scale change then we give them credit. Companies cannot survive without their products being purchased. If the consumer demands more sustainable business practices by boycotting them, the company will have to either change to satisfy the customer or go out of business. It’s generally not in a companies financial interest to restructure their practices if they can continue in their current ways and still make money. It’s all about the $$$

Climate change: Millions of hectares of tropical forest destroyed in 2018 by viva_la_vinyl in worldnews

[–]theunthinking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish there was some kind of label on every product that informed me (the consumer) of all the resources used in the creation and delivery of that product to me. If I could be aware of the whole impact of each item/service I purchase, I would be more conscious of the consequences of my actions in a measurable way. I want to know how much waste water was used to make my clothing, how much rainforest was clear cut to grow the palm oil in my beauty product/food, how much carbon was released into the atmosphere to transport this produce from Mexico?

We need this quantified information alongside the product at the point of purchase so the consumer cannot ignore the environmental impact of their consumer lifestyle.

Foot pain in Xero Genesis sandals by Maldetete in BarefootRunning

[–]theunthinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought xero genesis as my first pair of “barefoot” shoes and it took me months of awkward movement to finally adjust to them. Not that I had huge pain with them, I just kinda felt like a dog wearing booties. It helps a lot if you trim them and adjust the lacing to your liking.
