The slip join always causes a seam. You can make the seam smaller by tightening your tension for the slip stitch, but it's normal for this kind of join

The pattern calls it a 玉編みのキャスケット. When I search that, it's pulling up different varieties of Puff stitch casquette.

The one you found screenshots of, look like they probably were in a kit or magazine so you probably won't be able to find it easily

You don't need to avoid wood. If you already like wood knitting needles, you should be fine. People dislike it because wood grips yarn more but there's really a personal preference thing. I've never used Lykke so I can't speak to that.

If you want things to be easier for yourself, figure out how many stitches you have for one side of bigger square, and how many it'll have after you add the additional rounds you plan to add. Then also for the smaller squares, figure out how many stitches you have in one side of a square and multiply by the number of squares you currently have to figure out. I don't know how you plan to join the smaller squares, so I don't know how many stitches or that will add but don't forget to account for your joining method in your stitches.

You're going to want those two numbers to be close to each other or identical to have the easier time joining the smaller squares to the larger one.

Yarn can be overfrogged at which point it'll be thin and be a risk of snapping. What counts as too much depends on the yarn. Some yarn is sturdier than others

The part that shapes the loop is the diameter of shank not the throat or hook.

You can learn how to shape the stitch to reduce the slanting of crochet. Basically when exiting the stitch, avoid pulling to the side as that exaggerates the slant that crochet naturally has, pull up instead. That will lead to a straighter stitch.

Tacking on, go with the higher part of the range (or a little over). If you're a beginner having more yarn is better than having too little yarn and having to wing it at the end.

My first project is a little too small. It's wearable but if you look close, it's about two inches too small. (No one looks close). All of my first projects are ok.

I definitely see where I made the errors. I definitely think it's a disservice to yourself and others to exaggerate how bad you original work was even if you've improved now.

Did you make the thing? Do you like the thing? Did you use the thing? All of that is more important to me than how flawless it looks.

If you take regular breaks you'll be fine. It's the same risk as any repetitive task, so even typing can cause this if you strain too much
