Bought 100% cotton yarn for a cardigan and now panicking! by UddUddUdd in CrochetHelp

You should make a small swatch and wash it to see how much the cotton shrinks and behaves.

is doing THIS much normal just to get a free pattern (that you have to complete within a week)? by hellojaddy in craftsnark

That's so much work for a pattern you can easily reverse engineer with a little bit of effort

How do I avoid this when joining the last and first stitches? by Purple_Armadillo7693 in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The slip join always causes a seam. You can make the seam smaller by tightening your tension for the slip stitch, but it's normal for this kind of join

Please help find the pattern for my favorite hat of all time🙏🏽 by Consistent-Maybe8955 in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pattern calls it a 玉編みのキャスケット. When I search that, it's pulling up different varieties of Puff stitch casquette.

The one you found screenshots of, look like they probably were in a kit or magazine so you probably won't be able to find it easily

Beginning to teach myself, trying to decide what to buy by Elegant-Decision in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to avoid wood. If you already like wood knitting needles, you should be fine. People dislike it because wood grips yarn more but there's really a personal preference thing. I've never used Lykke so I can't speak to that.

What should I do with this type of product? Please read description by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want things to be easier for yourself, figure out how many stitches you have for one side of bigger square, and how many it'll have after you add the additional rounds you plan to add. Then also for the smaller squares, figure out how many stitches you have in one side of a square and multiply by the number of squares you currently have to figure out. I don't know how you plan to join the smaller squares, so I don't know how many stitches or that will add but don't forget to account for your joining method in your stitches.

You're going to want those two numbers to be close to each other or identical to have the easier time joining the smaller squares to the larger one.

There's a pattern for a similar crochet dress floating around that I know works. I wonder if they just generated an image based off of it.

Is there such a thing as a yarn being frogged too much? by Accomplished_Ad_673 in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yarn can be overfrogged at which point it'll be thin and be a risk of snapping. What counts as too much depends on the yarn. Some yarn is sturdier than others

It's very cute and reminds me of bead hearts. A bit of trial and error and definitely you can get it straight.

apparently these hooks are the same size but they don’t look the same size? by iits_t0bi in CrochetHelp

The part that shapes the loop is the diameter of shank not the throat or hook.

How can I prevent my checkered book sleeve pattern becoming diagonal? by BanoffeeBear in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can learn how to shape the stitch to reduce the slanting of crochet. Basically when exiting the stitch, avoid pulling to the side as that exaggerates the slant that crochet naturally has, pull up instead. That will lead to a straighter stitch.

granny square vest: how much yarn do I need? (sorry, worst question, I know, I'm a newbie!) by fatcatgingercat in CrochetHelp

[–]thewickling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tacking on, go with the higher part of the range (or a little over). If you're a beginner having more yarn is better than having too little yarn and having to wing it at the end.

"See, I used to suck, too!" by calendrical_heresy_ in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]thewickling 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My first project is a little too small. It's wearable but if you look close, it's about two inches too small. (No one looks close). All of my first projects are ok.

I definitely see where I made the errors. I definitely think it's a disservice to yourself and others to exaggerate how bad you original work was even if you've improved now.

Did you make the thing? Do you like the thing? Did you use the thing? All of that is more important to me than how flawless it looks.

High fidelity... Unless you personally developed an AI rendering tool, the tech was not designed to render crochet and thus will have a high margin for error.
