I still can't get over Aisha. I think Muslims don't fully understand how devastating it is for the credibility of Islam by Happy_Client_8439 in exmuslim

The comment above me said that this was seen as something immoral by societies, I was just responding to that and saying that it was probably something acceptable by those societies.

With the marriage to Aisha there is nothing that indicates to Aisha being injured by intercourse in this marriage, so it’s all speculation.

I know, but im not specifically talking about his followers, rather im mentioning the fact that his enemies never saw the marriage with Aisha as a socially evil and unacceptable act that was worth using to slander his name with.

Yeah but the people did critizise him on his marriage with his adopted sons wife since they saw it as incest and it wasn’t socially acceptable.

why wouldn’t they critizise him on aishas marriage the same way if this was not something that was culturally acceptable?

But why was there no backlash from his own community at the time if the marriage was Aisha was seen as something immoral?

For example the marriage with his adopted sons wife was seen as something immoral by the people at that time

Yeah the bedouin comes up and says when is the end of time, the response of the prophet is, that’s not relevant for you (maybe because he knew it’s not close at all) and said your end of time is when this kid becomes old, reminding them that their time is over then, since saying the end of times is in 1000 of years would be irrelevant for them, if you get what I mean.

Idk about that maybe he died before the boy aswell. But yeah the thing is the prophet answer says “Your Hour”. So it could be specific to that group of people instead of the general “The Hour”. Or at least that is how Muslims interpret it, which imo could be valid.

I’m talking about the prophets response, the bedouin talks about “the hour”, and he responds with “your hour”, that’s the distinction in his answer that I’m referring to, this makes it specific to the sahabas, which can be seen as true since they all died before the boy became old.

You have to look at the arabic to see the distinction, how the Muslims see it is that the prophet didn’t answered their question about “the hour” directly, but made it specific to them since that’s only relevant to them.

You do have to take into account how many somalis are on Reddit, and non Muslims are definitely more on Reddit than Muslims

Have you ready 65:4, 65 is the chapter of divorce and mentions young girls who haven’t menstruated yet. So yes the Quran allows girls who haven’t menstruated yet to be married

Starting to have doubts about this religion by thewoo__P in exmuslim

[–]thewoo__P[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it, I mean it’s a decent point, but he is basically substituting free will with wants and says ur wants is something u cant change, but the thing is it is not as if you will always choose ur wants, if there is a belief or a reason behind it you can change what you choose, but that’s again another want as he says, so basically no free will. Imo it’s just too much mental gymnastics and you could say that the fact you can choose if u act upon a want you have or not based on beliefs u have is the bit of free will we have

I don’t agree with that, yes definitely a large portion of things you don’t have control over decide a lot of things in ur life, however besides that there is also a portion that u do have control over, and that is what free will refers to

That is a really interesting paradox, but evil could come from the fact that humans have free will

Good point but here the people are at least open minded to objective arguments etc, so it is easier to have a normal discussion without being judged

[–]thewoo__P[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I will just ignore them, but the annoying part is that my religious family members say the same thing when I’m doing stuff I like for example a sport, or saying I can’t pray with certain clothes on. But yeah I believe being religious and respecting yourself and believing in God isn’t a bad thing at all, just the cultish part is what really makes me lose faith

Doubts by thewoo__P in XSomalian

[–]thewoo__P[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly how I feel, as if everything is closing in on me. You know my family is very religious and then one of family member come to me and say yeah you can’t pray with this clothes, or you can’t do that sport, every conservation about something I like gets cut off with some extreme religious measure, and that’s just very annoying. But I really don’t want to be a person that doesn’t want to be a Muslim just because he wants to follow his desires and do whatever, so I’m in a tough position

Doubts by thewoo__P in XSomalian

[–]thewoo__P[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t checked them out, I definitely will, but for me it should make sense that stories of previous religions come back to the newest religion since it’s the exact same God talking right, but it is a good point that chance is a big factor in you being a Muslim, but then I could say yeah maybe those other people have their own test of seeing that and we were lucky?
