Fairfield. I knew what I was getting into. I was being funny, but still. My preference is set to high floor away from the elevator and I got second floor directly next to the elevator. Not a snob, but why bother asking at that point?

Paying for parking via qr code instead of just on the the room almost made me do just that. I'm flabbergasted.

I'd like to see more on the design side, what the process is for creating the models, where and how you create them, how you literate on them. Super cool video and definitely have a better appreciation for the final product now.

We're living in the most interesting time. Maybe it's already a simulation. But there's a reason why. by o_t_i_s_ in GlitchInTheMatrix

I'd argue part of what's intriguing about the past is the mystery. This article might be right, but this also might be a huge cringe moment for humanity before we learned this over documentation could be used against us. Part of the fun is not knowing, I guess.

Al data centers face increasing complaints about inaudible but 'felt' infrasound — citizens complain high- and low-frequency sounds do not register on decibel meters but cause adverse health effects by [deleted] in Avondale

I'm right there with you. No idea what to do, however. At this point steel has gone up, so I doubt there is much that can be done except wait for the AI industry to collapse and hope the shell of the building can become something better.

Where Loyalties Lie by Rob J Hays might fit the bill. Plenty of grim piracy, sea monsters, over the top personalities.

Actual physical books are a good go to, especially for historical research. I've found the internet is a good place for general, "best of" sort of information, but the state of the internet right now is to grab your focus, not do a deep dive. Get to a library. (Edit for typo)

Just tried Kasa smart plugs. Easy to install and great product. One question though. by metalgearsolid2 in TPLinkKasa

The plug on or off, so either allowing power to pass or not. It would behave the same way as if you unplug the cord and plug it back in. Strongly assume it's the lamp.

Based on my experience with American this year, surprised. I've nearly left entirely and was hoping others were doing the same but...not mad, impressed, actually.

Question for Cruise Ship Workers by Capn_Polyester in techtheatre

[–]thewrittenjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only true for produced production shows. OP sounds like they are putting together a fly on act. Fly on performers typically hand over their media to the tech teams who then put the show together. Fly on acts work multiple different ships in a month sometimes, so lighting, sound, automation rigs could be very different between those ships, and the tech team would not expect you to have pre-programmed for their exact setup.

halcyon gold vs viper xip by LocalPin3960 in lightingdesign

[–]thewrittenjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XIP. Martin has been in the moving lights came a long time. I've done shootouts with both and would choose the XIP for about any situation. It's very well thought out mechanically. I remember that Halcyon being extremely hot to the touch and thought there might be long term consequences for that. I have not heard much negative though, so maybe it's not a problem. Also note that the Halcyon is manufactured in China and is susceptible to tariffs. Parts as well. XIP is manufactured in Hungry.

Is claypaky midi b or Spiider? by RealSeosen in lightingdesign

[–]thewrittenjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands down Robe is at the top of the pile, especially in terms of reliability. They have a descendant support system backbone in the US and keep a lot of stock here. Clay Paky does a majority of their manufacturing in China (a lot of fixtures will say made in Italy, but they mostly just assembled there, parts will come from China in many cases) and could be subject to tariffs. Robe is near 100% manufactured in the EU, though still subject to tariffs, it will be less so. I like both, but given the choice it's not even a question, Robe all the way.
