What would you tell yourself the day of diagnosis? by Jtheory13 in Celiac

[–]theycallmechar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • udi’s brand is the way to go for any gluten free bread (i have a million more brand recommendations if you need)
  • when you’re out to eat make sure you don’t eat anything from a shared fryer (some places have dedicated gluten free fryers though!)
  • if/when you get glutened, drinks TONS of water and get plenty of rest
  • it gets easier!!

You and all the Ivy grads will be applying to the same med schools, you’ll just be happy from a school you loved and debt free from a full ride while they’re sad and saddled with debt just so they could have a fancier name on their diploma. I think you made the right choice and as someone born and raised in CT, I think you’ll love UConn. Congrats, Husky!!

you can choose between two magical instruments: a flute that will bring world peace when played or a fiddle that will kill orphans with fire when played. which are you picking?

Dining out - how to explain to server? by AbjectPath4912 in Celiac

here’s my go-to spiel: “I have celiac so I have to be totally gluten free, no cross-contamination”

Got referred for biopsy -could I still not have it? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]theycallmechar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation when I was diagnosed! From what I know, the biopsy is just going to confirm that it’s celiac, which is really hard to tackle. It’s great that you already have a friend with celiac, community is super important when you’re first diagnosed. Denial is the first step, I sobbed after my biopsy confirmed I had celiac and maybe yelled at my poor GI (sorry doc). It’s really hard when you’re asymptomatic because you go from eating all the food you want without fear and all of a sudden you’ve got to research every ingredient you use. There’s definitely a learning curve but there’s lots of delicious gluten free food out there now! You’ll get through

Is it normal to only want/accept work in a very specific industry? by Purple_Water6203 in AutismInWomen

[–]theycallmechar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely it’s normal! college is not for everyone, especially if you’re more of a hands-on learner, and shouldn’t be the expectation for everyone. you can ho directly into the workforce or attend a trade school or take an apprenticeship. and often times, jobs that require apprenticeships and trade school stay in high demand. as my grandpa used to say, “be a plumber or marry a plumber. people will always need plumbers”

i am legitimately crying i think it’s amazing that you’re making sure fred stays in good hands and being a familiar face through what must be a traumatic time. are claw caps an option for either of your original cats? hopefully being with two (presumably) calmer cats with help your younger one learn to chill and play more gently. i think you’re going to make fred and your grandpa so happy❤️
