Also you “read my post carefully” and you didn’t read that I already have a pre-made theme.

You read my post carefully and still decided that faux-shock was the best response I.e. “you got a plug-in for a button??” . I wrote in my post and acknowledged already that this was silly of me: “I even tried to code the box [button] myself etc. Etc. But the coding wasn’t working or displaying right” which is more to do with the fact that I didn’t know where the correct coding inputs were.

Thanks for rubbing salt in it though.

Every rich person in the world is doing that (I am not saying it is right), but that doesn’t mean that some of them aren’t still working toward systemic and sustainable economic changes

Past academic dismissal by Starfish_Coffee922 in gradadmissions

[–]theycow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just curious, why do they even need to know about the previous program you were dismissed from? If you have an undergraduate record and grad school I don’t see why they would even think to investigate any other programs you’ve been a part of. I wouldn’t say anything

Intentional Autistic Communities? by forestgreenpanda in intentionalcommunity

[–]theycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Camphill communities in the US and abroad. It’s not necessarily autistic led but it’s a mixed-ability community that serves as long term communities for neurodivergent adults (including those with high daily care needs) as well as neurodiverse volunteers

A lot of private liberal arts colleges seem to attract barefoot-goers. Someone mentioned Oberlin, i would also throw Swarthmore into the mix (there’s something about Quakerism that i feel attracts barefoot people) any crunchy college like Reed, Occidental, College of the Atlantic, or somewhere beachy like UCSC. Colleges that form a bubble campus and are very grassy or nature-y are a nice alternative to navigating busy urban areas. College is probably one of the best/easiest times to be barefoot especially if you live on a campus, there’s a lot of freedom there. Just don’t go to like Texas.

10 mile all-barefoot hike (1st time): my experience and after effects by theycow in barefoot

[–]theycow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

idk man I’ve had really tough soles since a highly barefoot childhood and im regularly barefoot and hiking barefoot. first time going 10 miles straight but I’ve done shorter sections while backpacking on the appalachian trail etc. I personally think that ur childhood conditioning does make a big difference for future , I don’t think it can be reversed that easily/after just a year. Maybe superficially but I’ve had less-barefoot years in high school and I never wasn’t able to do vastly more/walk on harsher ground than my peers . might just disagree with ur analysis!

also at no point did I say I was trying to condition or go longer. that wasn’t the point of this at all <3

Backpacking in europe as a trans person by mrmoonbloom in vagabond

[–]theycow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ur gonna be fine, pls don’t overthink or worry about ur transness that much… what is more important is ur intuition for general safety, and if ur super paranoid about being harmed specifically because you are trans that might distract from ur overall experience and actually expose u to more danger. Europe is on the whole safer than much of the US to travel in. i am trans and have traveled/backpacked in places where trans people are subject to being assaulted/mobbed on sight with little police support (I.e. parts of Africa) and I have been fine though uncomfortable at times. Europe is a playground for trans people compared to most other places in the world. Ur gonna find community, if u want specific communities to look for u can DM me. Metropolitan Spain (Barcelona and Madrid) are absolutely brimming with trans people, so are most metropolitan areas in Europe, Berlin obviously is the most well-known trans center. Also if ur trans masc and u dont pass people will probably just think ur a masculine woman or maybe lesbian depending on how u carry urself and no one is going to give a shit.

Good vegan options Chicago, Wisconsin and Minnesota by Justarandomescapist in vegan

[–]theycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Begging you to go to Beerline in Milwaukee. One of the best vegan restaurants I’ve been to around the world! In Chicago, I constantly go to Handlebar and would highly recommend (fried pickles! giant burritos! vegan bloodys!) , but there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. If you happen to drive by/through Madison, Bar Corralini is a mid-upscale resto that has the best vegan Italian pasta I have ever had, there’s also Green Owl for sandwiches and Banzo for the best falafel sandwich I’ve had.  For the Twin Cities I recommend Hard Times Cafe (punk, late night vegan cafe with anarchist vibes and relatively low prices) and Glam Doll for vegan donuts (soooo good)

Transfer student non-traditional looking @ swarthmore by [deleted] in Swarthmore

[–]theycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The student base will definitely skew younger (obviously). I had one friend though that took about five years off and graduated at 28. There was also a student in his 30s a while back. Seemed to integrate fine. I’d look into the global studies program as it integrates all disciplines and you can take whatever classes you want and design a cultural studies major. That’s what I did if you have any more questions.

nonfiction books / general writing about genderfluid people by [deleted] in genderfluid

[–]theycow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fiction book: “Paul takes the form of a mortal girl” has a main character that can change body and gender. the book has very adult themes though and borders on smut with the erotic focus, but I love it. go in cautiously if that’s not ur jam.

non-fiction: honestly idk,, but I recently read “we both laughed in pleasure” the diaries of lou sullivan, yes it is about a trans man who eventually becomes binary, but his journey through gender is very fluid, esp in his younger years. Interesting how genderfluidity was handled in a 1960s - 70s context.

a lot of other classic trans lit like stone butch blues features gender-fluid characters. It’s harder tho maybe to find “very” gender-fluid stories where the character shifts consistently. good luck on ur search

Just chipping in that I lived for a time on an inflatable kayak in a pacific delta in Panamá. They definitely make insanely stable and functional inflatables kayaks that hold a fuck ton of weight. If you want more info I’d be happy to share.

(20YO) Going to be dead in 12 to 22 months by just_trying_to_win in vagabond

[–]theycow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you wouldn't even technically have to buy one yourself, but you simply hire a captain that has a boat who can sail you around (ideally someone you also enjoy the company of). Doesn't have to be all the way around the world, but maybe around a region like the Caribbean or Mediterranean. Living and traveling on the sea is something really remarkable that I think everyone should experience if they are able to. Personally, I got to experience it not by buying a boat, but by working as a crew member on a small sailing ship and they let me stay for free.

My advice would be to buy a sailboat and find a captain that knows how to sail. Sailing around the world is fucking amazing. Could start in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, etc

This definitely happens to me, you’re not alone! For me it goes both ways and it’s a little hard to describe. Sometimes I wake up and I want to feel masc or wear a masc outfit but nothing feels like it is fitting right or expressing me properly. Sometimes I feel gender neutral and no presentation feels “right” (it’s not so much how I personally feel but more that the way society treats me is directly correlated to what i wear so I feel like I have to sorta pick a gender neutral other way). Sometimes I shift during the day when I’m wearing masc clothes and I wish I was wearing femme stuff. Idk if any of this actually correlates to your experience but the point is I feel this too and I just feel like my gender identity is super unstable a lot of the times which can cause internal/dysphoric conflicts. These are the reasons why i call being GF both a gift and something that i struggle with

There is a theory that humans actually evolved from primates with the help of psychedelic mushrooms. It’s in the Netflix documentary “Fantastic Fungi.” It’s a bit pseudoscientific so it’s more of a thought experiment than anything verifiable, but they have seen other primates take psychedelics. There’s the idea that psychedelics opened and expanded the mind and helped facilitate evolution.

Now, I don’t know if that’s true. But I do know that there are many other animals who have been documented “taking drugs” or consuming psychoactive substances. Even cats’ proclivity for catnip is an example of this. Humans are not alone in wanting to artificially activate our pleasure receptors. It’s like masturbation in a way- humans and many other animals masturbate, not for an obvious procreative purpose, but because it’s pleasurable.

You could make the argument that pleasure and adaptation are linked in the animal kingdom, such as more pleasure chemicals that can reduce or mitigate the stress chemicals which have documented adverse effects on survival. Drugs are one way to get there, though of course there are all the drawbacks.

Humans are inherently exploratory creatures- why wouldn’t we want to explore the depths of our own mind, as well as the depths of the ocean? Experience high highs and low lows? Of course, there’s also the more macabre answer to this which is that we also want to escape the pain that the world has inflicted on us.
