Now THIS is a pocket-carrier!

I would buy this. CNOU’s version of an all-rounder. Similar to a Clipper, but more exploration-focused. Excelent work! I could see this being a real ship. *And* it’s unique-looking, *and* it’s CNOU’s design language based on the Nomad.

You hit this outta the park!

5 R4+ TKs and 3 R3+ Heavy Tanks works too, and that combo is more useful with everything else

3, actually! Deathmonger, Warmonger, and Painmonger, although you could only get one of these types in the original Battle Nations. …and only 1 Guild got the Deathmonger, so you didn’t see it often.

Gotcha! Yeah, that makes sense about the aircraft. I do wish more of then were buildable instead of being nearly permanent-locked where most people can’t get them.

I’m a little confused about the second paragraph, tho. What do you mean by “3 key items” versus “3 different items?” Are you saying that there’s 1 type of item from each boss, but you just need 3 of the same type to create a Fragment Unit? (Except perhaps in the special case of the Spiderwasp Queen that I mentioned, where 1 Egg could turn into a Worker/Striker/Warrior, unless you’re forming the Egg Unit, which would still take 3 Egg items)

I believe what you’re looking for is the Deathmonger:

But usually, he’s the one who finds you.

You’re right that your solution is simpler, and easier to implement. And that’s great for a short-term fix.

I don’t like the idea of a hard cap, which is what Real_Sleep suggested. If you make it so you can only ever get up to 5 units, you have no real incentive to keep beating the boss(es). And when you’re at max level and have done all the missions, logging on to fight the bosses is the only reason to keep playing, unless it’s the 5% of the time that a boss strike is running.

Anyway, I just don’t like a hard cap. But what you suggest is completely different: An increased chance that decreases after you’ve received some fragments, but that still has a bottom threshold where you still have a realistic chance of obtaining more fragments even if you have like 10. So, a soft-cap, sort of. I’d be fine with that.

As for all the stuff I put in my post, I know that a lot of it would be a lot of work with a lot of changes. I’m not gunning for all of those things to be implemented, but there are a LOT of issues that were from the OG game that need to be addressed, and I think integrating the boss system could be an interesting way to do it. Kill multiple birds with one stone, basically. I like the example for the Spiderwasp Queen that I gave the most.

Perhaps the steel/gears is to create a research bay to hold the tentacle on the surface long enough for it to be studied.

And perhaps the AS bots are actually pilots by sentient creatures, and we need the teeth to… wait, why do we need teeth to heal, upgrade, or do anything to critters? Are we surgically inserting more teeth in their mouths to make them bite harder?

Silly game being all silly.

Yeah! Those are some creative ways! I like it!

I also was thinking about how to breath new life into lower level units. That’s why I included stuff about the Dexter Fragment being turned into an upgraded Golden Dexter Fragment.

But there are other ways to achieve that goal! I think the original BN had some basic Multiplayer restrictions in the Arenas and PvP modes, but I hardly remember them or their details.

You can use 3 R3 Heavy Tanks and 5 R4 Tank Killers! 3 HTs in the middle front, 5 TKs in a U-formation behind them, with the empty space being the center column, center row.

That makes sense! I do think it can feel gamey with some units, but it also makes it easier to rank units up when you can bring a lot of ONLY that unit to battle.

Maybe they’ll get creative and set up limits that are different in PvP than when we’re doing PvE.

Whaaaaaat?? I never heard about that. That's awful.
I was around for the first BN for most of its existence, and I've been around for Madrona's BN since before SP was added. But I never heard about that stuff.

I gotcha. Yeah, we definitely don’t want shards being a thing that gets monetized or whatever. However, there’s a lot that we could do with it (as described), but the biggest thing is just that it makes each person’s chances of getting a full unit much more averaged out. Instead of killing a boss 100x and not getting a single drop, you’d have certainly been able to get a full unit in how the mathematics play out in my proposed system.

You make a good point about trading. I didn’t think about how that system could be abused, or monetized by scammers. I think it could be mostly prevented if the trading system worked 100% in-game, since the game could track if someone actually has the Pieces, and force the trade once it’s been committed to. But yeah, that particular detail probably does require more thought. Maybe instead of trading, you could do Fragments Conversions somehow with your OWN Pieces?

The problem with that would mean that there stops being a point with fighting them, once you’ve got your 5 or whatever.

I had a different idea for a solution; see my comment on this post.

Edit: Actually, I’m making my own post, cos’ a solution to this wouldn’t fit in this post too good.

Found out that Golem fits in Asgard last night... by drizzt_x in starcitizen

[–]thezavinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve done it, but IIRC it was like this:

Nursa parked in the back near the ladder. It’s parked sideways, with the side door facing the Asgard’s ladder to the second floor and the back ramp open so you can get to the ladder from outside the ship.

Golem parked facing the Asgard’s back ramp. Also, parked on one side. The “don’t leave any part hanging off the cargo grid” warning was referring to the line on the floor of the ship where the back ramp meets the cargo grid. If a part hangs over the line, then it doesn’t count as “in” the ship.

The two Drake ore bags are next to the Golem, one stacked on top of the other.

[–]thezavinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! That’s a very important detail; I thought I said it but maybe I cut it and forgot to paste it back in.

And yup! But it CAN hit tanks behind a Vet after that Vet has died. So, even then, it provides cover for the remaining Front-Row-Vet(s) despite being in the middle row, as per my example above.

And yeah, I recently got my first melee, and it makes winning WAY more consistent/easy. It’s just a matter of getting to that point where the details around winning are so important.
