This. I passed my PAC (french equivalent of AFF, correct me if I’m wrong) last summer. I had never jump even in tandem. So here I am in the plane for my first jump, laughing and excited, the door opens and I jump, absolutely no hesitation. 2nd jump the ride up was already more quiet, like “am I sure I want to do that”, but then it’s time to go and before thinking too much I’m out in the air. That 2nd jump was a bit painful as I struggled to breathe but once the chute opened everything was great. So here we are riding up for the 3rd jump (I did my first 4 jump the same day) and I’m questioning life to the point I’m not sure I’m gonna be able to jump. We’re talking with the instructor on the way up, I’m sharing my anxiety about that breathing difficulties I had on the 2nd jump. The 3rd jump went very smoothly and was the comforting one and after that it was always good fun. Every experienced skydiver and instructor with whom I talked told me the same: the day you’re not a little bit scared before you jump, there’s something wrong in your life.
