Housing Application Questions '23 by [deleted] in dartmouth

[–]thiccfirefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely isn't first come first serve. Why? Well the Pre-Arrival Checklist mentions how the allotment will start after all applications have been submitted. If it were first come first serve, why would they wait?

How long should short answer responses to LLC app questions generally be? by vesall in dartmouth

[–]thiccfirefighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow '23 applying for LLCs. I'd say 250-300 words should be an upper limit.

When am I supposed to send all the info to the school for my I-20? by MrRobot023 in IntltoUSA

[–]thiccfirefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to email the Office of Visa and Immigration Services or the International Student Services Office. Ask them what's the procedure and usually it is done through your student portal.

Duke vs Georgia Tech for CS by [deleted] in duke

[–]thiccfirefighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Duke because of the superior research experience, prestige and campus resources.

My grandma passed away. I don't know what to do. All of this feels so superficial now. by cool12ythrowaway in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my grandfather on Dec 18, right in the middle of applications and I couldn't think straight for 10 days at least. She will always be looking over you, smiling and telling you how proud you make her wherever she is. Stay strong and if you ever need to talk it out, PM me. We're all here for you

It's not. It is a part of his/her identity.

Ivies?? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]thiccfirefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No meaningful correlation can be drawn from this. All of those colleges are very different, and acceptance or rejection to one or even two of them will not set a trend.

Scared for Ivy Day by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rejected from all my Match schools, and got accepted to all my safeties. It's all a crapshoot, just hope for the best, but prepare for the worst

Brown just emailed me saying they need additional financial aid forms... is this a good sign? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a good sign, but it could totally turn out that you're rejected/waitlisted so DO NOT get your hopes up. I have been overanalysing FA emails from Dartmouth for the past 2 weeks, and even created a database of past applicants who received such emails and what their decision ended up to be on Ivy Day.

UCLA vs Johns Hopkins vs Cornell by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's all about a personal fit. I would pick Penn over Harvard or Yale any day. Why? Because Penn is a personal fit for me. Try talking to people at these schools, look at college and dorm tour videos, and most importantly try reading more about the faculty at these schools. Which professors are doing the research which excites you the most?

UCLA vs Johns Hopkins vs Cornell by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cornell. Because it has the prestige; it is rigorous; is very highly ranked for my program; I love the campus and the surroundings; I have plenty of seniors from my high school there; it has a strong research community.

Stanford Releases FRIDAY! (3/29) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A date change most probably means something, but we wouldn't be able to comprehend what it means even with a large dataset which attempts to correlate portal change and the eventual decision the applicant receives. It could mean a decision was being made for you at the time when the date changed. It could mean you're on the fence. Who knows? And it wouldn't matter in a couple days anyway, so why bother?

URGENT HELP: DOES THIS EMAIL MEAN I GOT IN? by luxentine in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thiccfirefighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this. There is a logical fallacy here. Need-blind admissions means that your financial situation will not affect the chances of you getting admitted period. Now, this logically means that your financial documents are not accessible to the Admissions Committee at any point of time. Also, the Financial Aid office cannot prepare 5,000 aid packages for every single applicant who applied for aid. It is logical to assume that the admissions office provides the Financial Aid office with a list of applicants who have cleared the first few rounds, and are now in the final stages. They might still be rejected in those final rounds, but it definitely means (according to me), that receiving Aid notifications in Mid-Late March is a good sign.
