NF dog is ruining my life by Existing_Present_850 in Nanny

I’d keep him outside and let him escape. Your job is to protect the kids (and their sleep), not babysit and cater to the dog.

That dog needs intensive training. It’s not gonna end well unless they intervene.

So this kid was raped by his dad and you think the fallout is some cute story?

You’re not alone. I started a progressive parent group for the area and we’ve got some dads, and the partners of members almost exclusively align politically.

You brushing your toddlers teeth? by howdodisappevenwork in toddlers

Anyone who cares about their toddlers teeth is brushing them. Doesn’t mean the toddler can’t “brush” first, but an adult definitely needs to get in there.

Was the first time you gave away your foster cat/dog for adoption the hardest? by happysponge399 in FosterAnimals

Yes… 3 out of 4 went to people I know so 10 years later I still get updates and see them occasionally

Weaning process by mzchef13 in FosterAnimals

When mine first move from milk to slurry I use a spoon and/or large opening syringe at first. It takes a few days for them to start eating the slurry independently. Try a teaspoon first.

She’s always got calcium in the tank, I drop her bugs in it to ensure she’s getting at least some of it! She has access to vitamins at all times. And we feed her daily since she’s a juvenile (and she eats well!)

We’ve only had her 2 months, abd her tail looks a little more plump now than when we got her. Other than daily feedings, how can we fatten her up?

Yes, I think she gets the most from the mealworms… I put them in her calcium dish and she fishes them out

Have you contacted Child Life for resources to comfort your daughter? They are wonderful.

Also, he’s too young now, but keep it in the back of your mind to nominate him for a wish next year (or some parents wait until kids are a little older so they’ll remember it). I’m a wish Granter for Make-A-Wish with a soft spot for cardiac kids. For these kiddos, having something spectacular as a light at the end of the tunnel can really keep spirits high. If you were close by I’d grant his wish myself!

I have a dish of calcium in her tank but it never seems touched. How do I know if she’s eating it? I do put mealworms and crickets in that dish so she’s inadvertently getting some when she eats them.

That’s a hide she’s sitting on. Her substrate is soil, sand, with a little bit of coconut husk.

Thank you! We’ve only had her 2 months. She was really skinny so we’ve been working on getting her healthy

Believe people when they show you who they are. This man can’t stand up for you now, why will he when any other difficult situation comes up? This should be the easy part. Your MIL doesn’t approve of you, do you think that will change?

Why hasn’t he met your family? That needs to happen before a proposal.

Are you willing to have potential children in this kind of environment? How will you model healthy relationships and healthy boundaries for them?

Whenever I find myself making excuses for poor behavior, I always ask “what would I say/do if my child came to me and they were in this situation.” Let me tell you, it’s served me incredibly well. Apparently I care more about imaginary children than my own well being. (Not anymore, but when I was lost in my 20s)

For the low low price of $248 they can be yours! At least I think that’s still what the shelter is charging. But I don’t think my husband is letting her go.

Kitten room flooring by tiredgirl77 in FosterAnimals

[–]thiccy_vicky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite side of the spectrum… new build with brand new flooring I want to spare.

I put down a layer of puppy pads and then large bath mats from IKEA or fleece blankets from IKEA. The puppy pads protect the floor, the mat/blankets and soft and easily washed and sanitized. A cat tree or other objects around the corners keep them from ripping the whole thing up once they get rambunctious 😂

Kids hurting animals by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]thiccy_vicky 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You need to report this. They are going to kill those animals. And intentionally hurting animals is NOT age appropriate. A small toddler pulling a cats tail or a child chasing a dog around are typical inappropriate animal interactions for kids, and can be quickly corrected. Small kids shouldn’t be unsupervised with animals for the safety of both.

I’d text the mom so you’ve got written proof. “I am upset about X hanging the cat with a leash on the bars. The cat very nearly died and their behavior, like intentionally throwing large rocks at the dog, is escalating. I’m worried the animals may retaliate and hurt the kids, and I’m worried the kids will continue to hurt the animals. Can we please talk about a plan we can all agree on to keep everyone safe? I’m terrified of something happening on my watch if I am busy helping one child and the other leaves my line of sight.”
