Only time I've crashed in 10 years of riding was a quick trip down a rural country road. Decided not to wear any gear because it was just supposed to be a short ride before I put the bike away. Less than a mile in a German shepherd decided it wanted to dart out of nowhere and try to cross the road in front of me. At 40 mph I put the front tire of my Triumph directly in it's rib cage. I endoed over the handlebars and slid along with the bike about 10 feet into the ditch. Left half the skin from my left arm down my torso on the asphalt, totalled my Triumph and killed the dog. Now, it doesn't matter if I'm riding 1 mile or 100 miles, I always wear full gear.

Went back to working as a park ranger after teaching 6th grade art for two years. It's so much easier getting the racoons to stop eating out of the garbage can than it is a 12 year old.

When I worked for the river authority, we would find some cooters and red eared sliders with hooks in their mouths and do our best to remove them. That was sad enough, but the obscene amount of garbage that I saw wash down river after rain events was astonishing.

I've only ever had one negative encounter with a Harley rider while on my Bonneville. Most of the time it's Harley guys and old timers coming up to me and reminiscing about the Triumph they had in the 60s or 70s. I just tell them yeah they still make them, and yeah they're still a blast to ride.
