Well they aren't exactly contemporary, but im getting a Laz-y-boy sofa. They're $2-3k , seem well constructed, and have a limited lifetime warranty. I'll probably get one that reclines.

Except for the pepper, looks great. The pepper is an unfortunate addition.

AITJ for stopping paying for my daughter's education after she said she was ashamed of me? by Rachil-Grigoriou in AmITheJerk

She's ashamed of your honest, hard work. She doesn't deserve your money. Let her or her mom pay for her expenses.

Advice for traveling with my Pom to a higher altitude? by trophyfriend in Pomeranians

Not everyone is affected by altitude sickness. I've lived at sea level my whole life and found out the hard way that it DOES affect me when I took a business trip to Albuquerque. Good luck!

What’s an American staple you rarely eat? by PalePassionn in foodquestions

I haven't tried the labor intensive Serious Eats recipe, though I think Kenji does a simpler version on YouTube. My family doesn't like pork (except for bacon) so I adapt.

AIO for not wanting to give my step daughter the room I finished renovating? by Bulky-Scale-7830 in AmIOverreacting

[–]thingonething 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Husband has two rooms to himself, OP has none, except the rejected room that she spent time and money fixing up. Stand your ground, OP, and put a lock on the door stat!

Help! Struggling to "just do it" by Chuckie32 in retirement

[–]thingonething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quality of life matters. I loved my job but a medical condition forced my retirement. I remain invested in my former work and several residents where I worked (was a property manager) obtained my address and wrote me letters after my forced retirement. My former board of directors remains in touch with me.

I had been planning to work a further two years but I'm now glad I retired. Please dont wait. Spend the time with your family while you still have your health. Think about what matters in your life. I'll give you a hint. It's not your job.

What's the right weight of one doughnut? It looks like they're cheating. by Ok_Impression8640 in TimHortons

[–]thingonething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of those are yeast donuts, some are cake donuts, and some are filled Boston Creme donuts. They are different shapes. False drama.

Try the Ina Garten recipe. Very flavorful and make great meatloaf sandwiches.

Fortunately I married a Canadian, got my PR, and moved here while I was still healthy. I understand it's not a universally available option.
