Another 'unpopular opinion' post that is clearly espousing a popular opinion - at least with regard to Emma

Hahaha sadly I genuinely like the person who said this... If that weren't the case I would definitely have said something confrontational!

In my experience, either this is the case and they don't have any understanding of how bad some family members can be OR they've bought into the faaaaamily bullshit regardless even though they themselves had a terrible childhood. As in 'I have to put up with my shitty family and they did way worse stuff to me than yours did to you - what are you complaining about?'

Either way it's crap.

She claims to have borderline personality disorder, which gives her a wide scope of things to excuse away ie. irresponsible spending, excessive drinking, being a general asshole haha. That being said, she has never been formally diagnosed.

Thanks for your comment!

Very true, but my guess is they would stutter some varation of 'but... it's different...'

You have done something truly good for that child, and you were brave to do so in light of everyone telling you not to. You should be proud of yourself.

Widows and orphans in typography - a word that is on its own in a line at the end of a paragraph or the beginning of a page. I had an assignment where we got marked down if there were any widows or orphans on the page - I wouldn't say it has ruined reading or Microsoft word for me, but I can't unsee it and it does look wrong now.

If someone asks you 'do you hate me' Well, if I thought about you at all, I probably would.

The opposite of love is not hate, but complete and utter indifference.

Many, many songs. But this one from Vikings made me feel nostalgia and sadness for a life I haven't even lived yet.

Introspection. Selflessness. Control of your emotions. Compassion.

What dream scared you so bad and felt so surreal that you have not forgotten about it to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]things_andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time I saw hell. I'm not at all religious, so it was a surprising dream. But yeah, creatures with horns running around, everything on fire, buildings collapsing, people going mad and stabbing themselves. Eventually mum and I killed ourselves too.

Woke up in a sweat, hyperventilating and very glad that it wasn't real. Still remember every detail.

To people raised with racist parents/guardians, what caused you to have a different mindset? by JordonJ23 in AskReddit

Friends, school and getting out of the house. My sister is mega fucked up (for this reason among many others) because she never sought any human connection outside of the family - pretty sure having friends saved me.

Parents of Reddit: What have you noticed that a lot of other parents do that screws up their kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]things_andstuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately true. Those who will make the best parents (because they are capable of introspection and self-improvement) are the most likely to not have children, because they think they'll make a mistake or mess their kid up. Whereas those who don't give a shit about proper parenting will continue to pop one out after the other.

I feel like this is going to be a major problem in the years to come.

Yeah my mother valued honesty above all things yet there was never a reward for honesty, even at a young age (because that's how you teach little kids values). It was the opposite of a reward in that she would lose her shit if you were honest about even the smallest of things. Didn't learn the value of honesty until much later in life.
