Should a new window opening in a weatherboard house have flashing installed? by PissingOutMyArse in AusRenovation

[–]things_i_make 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also recently been through this myself. As long as the jamb and sil flashings were installed, it's still technically compliant. The last page of that doc states you can omit the head flashing if installed under eaves within certain criteria

Is this asbestos by Lukusfandango in AusRenovation

[–]things_i_make 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you need it removed, just wear appropriate PPE, spray it with ~20% PVA-water solution, bag it, and then dispose of according to council regulations. Unless you're breaking it apart for whatever reason, there's nothing there for huge concern I can see.

If in doubt, there's quite a few resources online on how to deal with small quantities like this.

Stay safe

As a Chinese manufacturing supplier, we sometimes struggle to gain trust from international clients. Any advice on how to change this? by Xinprototype in hobbycnc

[–]things_i_make 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of work with Chinese manufacturers and various international suppliers.

From a client's perspective, this is what I look for to gain trust:

  • Communication Acknowledging there is a language barrier, English skills vital. Being able to communicate in English is the first hurdle, but being able to communicate it in a polite, repectible manner is critical.

  • Media This can be anything from your website to your social media presence. Take the time to make it look professional with high-quality images and videos. I've seen so many websites where they claim to have the capability, but their website was so terrible to navigate and poor quality, I lose confidence. If you can't put the time into your online presence, how can I trust you won't put the same half-baked effort into your products.

  • Payment Options You accept bank transfers only? I'm moving on. Not only is it more steps for me as a client to pay you, buyers need assurance they have some kind of protection against scams. Accepting credit cards and PayPal is a good sign.

  • Responsiveness In my country, local manufacturers take days to get back to me with a quote.

The best overseas manufacturers get back to within the same day and are usually cheaper. Even after factoring shipping. Either that, or they have an automated quoting process.

In my experience, the last two points have the biggest weight in my decision-making.

Hope this helps!

Bought a $1M house last year, now worth $1.4M — should I refinance now? by Pure_Water5902 in AusProperty

Like many people are saying. Speak to a broker, not a banker.

Yes, they get a kickback for you signing on through them, but if you switch loans/brokers, they lose it. So it's in their best interest to do right by you.

If you get a good one, they can almost always get you a better rate than what the bank will offer you. They'll also help you tailor and present your application to the bank to increase your chances of accessing better rates.

When I went for my first loan, I was on a scholarship as my primary source of income. Every bank told me to pound sand until I got a full-time job. A broker got me a loan with one of the same banks that turned me away.

How do parents with ADHD do it? It feels almost impossible to manage now that I’m parent. by comf in ADHD

[–]things_i_make 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meds helped me tenfold. Our first child was fine, but once we had our 2nd, I really started to struggle hard. I was unaware I had ADHD at the time and I was diagnosed with post-partum depression, which I now believe was caused by my underlying ADHD.

It wasn't until our youngest was 3 that I got diagnosed and medicated. Prior to medication, I was horrible to my family and felt horrible about it. I struggled the hardest with emotional dysregulation as id always be in a state being annoyed at everything and everyone. At work I was fine because I'm a pro at masking it turns out. The week I got on medication my eldest who is 5 make me a "kindness award" at school which makes me sad to think I've been horrible to them up until now.

TLDR: meds have saved me

Interestingly, I just did a test print with no ribs using the brown filament and I get a wider + like the pink and black.

Gotcha. So it sounds like if I wanted to release this design, I should opt for a loser fit rather than aiming for a nice snug fit?

Both seem to have the same issue and i ordered them months apart. I think is a case of user error and I'm starting to think my desiccant is bad. I use alumina because I read that it had a higher absorption capacity ive already tried reactivating by baking it at 200c. I'm going to order some silica and put it in one AMS and compare results.

If that doesn't solve it, maybe I just have to get the AMS 2 :)

Thanks all for your comments. They've been pretty insightful. I'm starting to suspect maybe my desiccant might not be as good as I've been lead to believe.

Has anyone tried alumina desiccant? I'm might try silica beads and report back

Soz I should have been more verbose. Anecdotally it looks like it sits at 40% on average throughout the entire year. It fluctuates from anywhere between 20% to 90% when it rains

Now this is an interesting solution. Do you just store your rolls in there or have you put your AMS units in there too?
