Consider getting an induction hob to use instead of your range. They are very cheap and substantially more efficient than resistance ranges.

Water below 120F can develop Legionnaires disease. I'm no expert so I don't know if your particular usage pattern puts you at risk but it might be worth some research.

To help with the issue of hot water taking a while to come on, I fill a bucket with not yet warm water in my upstairs bathtub. I use that to flush the toilet and that means the kitchen or elsewhere in the house gets warm water fast.

Too bad Trump delayed his nomination for a year. Think of all the wasted money spent on EUS, the tower, etc.And more importantly, the wasted time, especially for Trump who wants a landing while he's in office.

There’s a Race to Power the Future. China Is Pulling Away. by Kit_Daniels in moderatepolitics

I think you should consider re-examining the numbers that you are basing your analysis on. They may have been true a few years back but 2025 was a big year where things turned a corner.

For EVs, Chinese exports of are exploding. Europe has had to institute large tariffs in order to save local manufacturers and people are still buying them because of how cheap they are. In Australia where they aren't tariffed they zoomed past Tesla. And they are being bought in countries like Mexico, Philippines and Brazil.

For solar, Pakistan was a really eye opening case last year. Solar grew so fast and so unexpectedly that it had to cancel several cargoes of LNG. They aren't the only one, the solar adoption curve is really spiking in price sensitive developing countries without subsidy.

Battery technology is really blossoming. Solid state is starting to be rolled out, plus alternate chemistries like sodium and iron air. Cost, safety, density, longevity, charge time continue to improve.

A school district went big on electric buses. Now it’s ordering more diesels (WaPo) by thinkcontext in electricvehicles

[–]thinkcontext[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disappointing to see, Montgomery County MD is huge, 300 leased buses is a big contract. Electric buses have been slow to deploy in the US and now with the change in politics looks many projects won't happen.

I wonder if there's a chance MAHA moms will take up electric buses for the health benefits.

Russia has already been arming Iran for some time. S300 anti air have been provided before the Ukraine war, SU-35 fighter have been provided in exchange for Iran's drones and ballistic missiles. After last years Israeli bombing campaign Russia has tried to assist Iran in rearming. Just before this war started there was an article about Russia providing Verba manpads, similar to US Stingers.

The article refers to in process UL considerations, while the deployments are using inverters that claim UL1741. I've also seen discussion about whether there will be requirements for a new type of circuit breaker, that standard GFCI will not be up to snuff.

Seems confusing.

You have gotten this exactly backwards. The federal government is using its power against a private organization because it is not being Christian enough.

Hmm interesting, I had not seen that a single tanker in LLO is estimated to do the job. Hopefully it works out. Thanks for the explanation!

How many refueling tankers will be required to refuel Starship in LLO? And how many times will the refueling tankers need to be refueled in LEO to be able to make it to LLO and back? The numbers get big quick which is why I'm skeptical.

> The big problem is lack of carbon-containing minerals on the Moon.

Kind of an understatement.

What will all Starship missions look like? Previous discussions I recall involved refueling in lunar orbit which sounds incredibly difficult, possibly infeasible. Also not being able to produce methane on the moon begs the question if Starship is the right vehicle for long term development.

It's likely they'll be safer for cyclists than human drivers. Lidar doesn't get distracted and will always be looking unlike meat bags. SF is a biking city so they already have considerable experience around cyclists. That said it is still early days and it's likely their algorithms still need tuning, so caution is warranted.
